Abstract

We generate narrowband squeezed light resonant with the D1 F = 2 → F′ = 2 transition of 87Rb with four-wave mixing in 85Rb. Two-mode and single-mode resonant squeezing is generated with levels of −6.3 dB and −2.1 dB, respectively.

Atomic resonant single-mode squeezed light from four-wave mixing through feedforward

Saesun Kim, Alberto M. Marino

Squeezed states of light have received renewed attention due to their applicability to quantum-enhanced sensing. To take full advantage of their reduced noise properties to enhance atomic-based sensors, it is necessary to generate narrowband near or on atomic resonance single-mode squeezed states of light. We have previously generated bright two-mode squeezed states of light, or twin beams, that can be tuned to resonance with the D1 line of Rb87 with a non-degenerate four-wave-mixing process in a double-lambda configuration in a Rb85 vapor cell. Here, we report on the use of feedforward to transfer the amplitude quantum correlations present in the twin beams to a single beam for the generation of single-mode amplitude squeezed light. With this technique, we obtain a single-mode squeezed state with −2.9±0.1 dB of squeezing when tuned off resonance and −2.0±0.1 dB when tuned on resonance with the D1 F=2 to F′=2 transition of Rb87.

Strong relative intensity squeezing by four-wave mixing in rubidium vapor

Colin F. McCormick, Vincent Boyer, E. Arimondo +1 more

We have measured -3.5 dB (-8.1 dB corrected for losses) relative intensity squeezing between probe and conjugate beams generated by stimulated, nondegenerate four-wave mixing in hot rubidium vapor. Unlike early observations of squeezing in atomic vapors based on saturation of a two-level system, our scheme uses a resonant nonlinearity based on ground-state coherences in a three-level system. Since this scheme produces narrowband, squeezed light near an atomic resonance, it is of interest for experiments involving cold atoms or atomic ensembles.

Strong Relative-Intensity Squeezing of Light from Four-Wave Mixing in Hot Rb Vapor

Paul D. Lett, Vincent Boyer, Alberto M. Marino +2 more

We use nondegenerate four-wave mixing in hot atomic vapor to generate up to −7.1dB of relative-intensity squeezing between the probe and conjugate beams. This narrowband, multispatial-mode, squeezed light near an atomic resonance is of interest for image processing as well as experiments involving atomic ensembles.

Compact fiber-coupled narrowband two-mode squeezed light source

Umang Jain, Jae Woong Choi, Christopher Hull +1 more

Quantum correlated states of light, such as squeezed states, are a fundamental resource for the development of quantum technologies, as they are needed for applications in quantum metrology, quantum computation, and quantum communications. It is thus critical to develop compact, efficient, and robust sources to generate such states. Here, we report on a compact, narrowband, fiber-coupled source of two-mode squeezed states of light at 795 nm based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in an 85Rb atomic vapor. The source is designed in a small modular form factor, with two input fiber-coupled beams, the seed and pump beams required for the FWM, and two output fibers, one for each of the modes of the squeezed state. The system is optimized for low pump power (135 mW) to achieve a maximum intensity-difference squeezing of 4.4 dB after the output of fibers at an analysis frequency of 1 MHz. The narrowband nature of the source makes it ideal for atomic-based quantum sensing and quantum networking configurations that rely on atomic quantum memories. Such a source paves the way for a versatile and portable platform for applications in quantum information science.

Ultra Compact low cost two mode squeezed light source

Shahar Monsa, Shmuel Sternklar, Eliran Talker

Quantum-correlated states of light, such as squeezed states, constitute a fundamental resource for quantum technologies, enabling enhanced performance in quantum metrology, quantum information processing, and quantum communications. The practical deployment of such technologies requires squeezed-light sources that are compact, efficient, low-cost, and robust. Here we report a compact narrowband source of two-mode squeezed light at 795 nm based on four-wave mixing in hot 85Rb atomic vapor. The source is implemented in a small, modular architecture featuring a single fiber-coupled input, an electro-optic phase modulator combined with a single Fabry-Perot etalon for probe generation, and two free-space output modes corresponding to the signal and conjugate fields. Optimized for low pump power, the system achieves up to -8 dB of intensity-difference squeezing at an analysis frequency of 0.8 MHz with a pump power of only 300 mW. The intrinsic narrowband character of the generated quantum states makes this source particularly well suited for atomic-based quantum sensing and quantum networking, including interfaces with atomic quantum memories. Our results establish a versatile and portable platform for low-SWaP squeezed-light generation, paving the way toward deployable quantum-enhanced technologies.
