Abstract

We develop an effective scheme for implementing error-insensitive population transfer in a three-level system (qutrit) by invariant-based shortcuts with optimized drivings. Based on the method of inverse engineering, target population transfers can be performed in a shortcut manner. Taking into account the deviation errors and then optimizing the coherent drivings, we can improve the target population transfers to be insensitive to deviations of frequency detuning or Rabi coupling. Particularly, with an appropriate choice of coherent drivings, our scheme could be insensitive to these two kinds of errors simultaneously. As one of the potential applications, our scheme may remove the control errors of quantum operations on superconducting artificial atoms. By combining shortcuts to adiabaticity with optimal control, the protocol could offer a promising avenue to explore fast and robust quantum information processing experimentally.

Fast and robust population transfer with a Josephson qutrit via shortcut to adiabaticity

Zhi‐Bo Feng, Xiao-Jing Lu, Run‐Ying Yan +1 more

We propose an effective scheme to implement fast and robust population transfer with a Josephson qutrit via shortcut to adiabaticity. Facilitated by the level-transition rule, a Λ-configuration resonant interaction can be realized between microwave drivings and the qutrit with sufficient level anharmonicity, from which we perform the reversible population transfers via invariant-based shortcut. Compared with the detuned drivings, the utilized resonant drivings shorten the transfer times significantly. Further analysis of the dependence of transfer time on Rabi couplings is helpful to experimental investigations. Thanks to the accelerated process, transfer operation is highly insensitive to noise effects. Thus the protocol could provide a promising avenue to experimentally perform fast and robust quantum operations on Josephson artificial atoms.

Population Transfer in a Nitrogen-Vacancy Spin Qutrit via Shortcuts to Adiabaticity with Simplified Drivings

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng

Optimal control of quantum system is significant for information science and technology. Here, an efficient scheme is proposed for implementing fast population transfer in a spin qutrit of nitrogen-vacancy center via shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) with simplified drivings. At two-photon resonance, a $$\Lambda $$ -configuration interaction between the spin qutrit and driving fields can be obtained effectively. By the invariant-based STA, the reversible population transfer can be realized using the Rabi pulses with sine and cosine waveforms. Compared with the superadiabatic transitionless driving, the present pulses in our strategy become simplified technically, contributing to reduce the error effect of control parameter deviations. Moreover, the high-fidelity quantum operations can be performed with the accessible decoherence rates. The protocol could offer an optimized avenue towards the STA-based quantum control of spin qutrit experimentally.

Robust quantum state transfer by optimal invariant-based reverse engineering

Chun‐Ling Zhang, Xiang Chen, Shuang-Juan Shen +1 more

Shortening the operation time of implementing scheme and reducing the influence of harmful factors have always been the research objectives pursued by people. Based on invariant-based reverse engineering, we present a general scheme for implementing robust population transfer in a three-level system via optimal shortcut to adiabatic passage. The systematic error sensitivity is introduced to measure the robustness of the process. The smooth Rabi frequencies are expressed with some coefficients, which are also related to the systematic error sensitivity and the population of intermediate state. When the amplitude of control field is given, the transfer can be optimized within as small systematic error sensitivity as possible, i.e., the robustness against systematic errors is further improved by choosing suitable correlation coefficient. Additionally, we apply the technique to achieve robust excitation fluctuation transfer between two membranes in an optomechanical system. The relation between the fidelity of excitation fluctuation transfer and variation of effective optomechanical coupling strengths is analysed. Numerical result shows that the fidelity keeps over 0.95 even if the coupling strengths deviates from 20% of the theoretical value. Moreover, comparison with existing literature [Opt. Express29, 7998 (2021)10.1364/OE.417343], the proposed scheme possesses stronger robustness against variations of effective optomechanical coupling strengths and lower population of unwanted states. The idea may provide a promising approach for quantum information processing.

Error-insensitive preparation of entangled states between a Josephson qubit and microwave photons via invariant-based shortcuts

Run‐Ying Yan, Xiao-Jing Lu, Ming Li +3 more

Optimal preparation of quantum entanglement is of significance to information processing and state engineering. In this paper, an efficient scheme is proposed to implement error-insensitive generation of entangled states between a Josephson qubit and microwave photons by the technique of invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity. A superconducting qubit is dispersively coupled to a quantized cavity field of one-dimensional transmission line resonator. Within a considered subspace spanned by three composite states, we deal with an effective interaction of the composite system with two classical drivings. A maximally entangled qubit-photon state can be deterministically induced using a splitting-like quantum state transfer. To nullify the deviation errors of Rabi coupling and frequency detuning, we optimize the driving parameters and then make the entanglement creation insusceptible to these control imperfections. Thanks to the mitigation of deviation effects, robustness against the residual noisy environment could be obtained numerically. The proposed strategy could provide a promising avenue towards fast and robust information processing with superconducting circuit quantum electrodynamics.

Nonleaky and accelerated population transfer in a transmon qutrit

Xiao-Jing Lu, M. Li, Zhongan Zhao +4 more

We propose a theoretical scheme for implementing nonleaky and accelerated population transfer with a transmon qutrit. For a transmon-regime artificial atom with weak level anharmonicity, the leakage effects on the target population transfer are considerable. Allowed by the level-transition rule, a two-photon resonant interaction can be obtained between the qutrit and microwave drivings. In the regime of large detuning, by adopting the technique of invariant-based inverse engineering, the population transfer with no leakage errors can be sped up drastically when compared with the adiabatic operation. Moreover, the accelerated operation is highly robust against decoherence effects. Thanks to these distinctive advantages, the proposed protocol could offer a promising avenue to optimal quantum operations on transmon artificial atoms.

Robust stimulated Raman shortcut-to-adiabatic passage with invariant-based optimal control

Xue‐Ke Song, Fei Meng, Bao-Jie Liu +3 more

The stimulated Raman adiabatic passage shows an efficient technique that accurately transfers population between two discrete quantum states with the same parity in three-level quantum systems based on adiabatic evolution. This technique has widely theoretical and experimental applications in many fields of physics, chemistry, and beyond. Here, we present a general approach to robust stimulated Raman shortcut-to-adiabatic passage with invariant-based optimal control. By controlling the dynamical process, we inversely design a family of Hamiltonians with non-divergent Rabi frequencies that can realize fast and accurate population transfer from the first to the third level, while the systematic errors are largely suppressed in general. Furthermore, a detailed trade-off relation between the population of the intermediate state and the amplitudes of Rabi frequencies in the transfer process is illustrated. These results provide an optimal route toward manipulating the evolution of three-level quantum systems in future quantum information processing.
