Widely-tunable, spectrally pure, high efficient photon pairs generation at telecom wavelength

Photon source is one of the fundamental bricks for quantum information and computation systems. A widely-tunable, highly efficient and spectrally pure photon source would be very useful for such applications. In this paper, we present such a source based on spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) in a periodically poled KTiOPO4(PPKTP) crystal.

Broadband infrared light source by simultaneous parametric down-conversion

Masayuki Hojo, Kōichiro Tanaka

Spontaneous parametric down-conversion is an essential tool for a quantum light source in the infrared region ranging 2-5 µm for the purpose of material identification, chemical analysis, and gas sensing. So far, photon pairs from the process in a nonlinear crystal have low tunability and a narrow spectral range because of the phase-matching condition. Here, we propose a novel type of spontaneous parametric down-conversion processes that overcomes these challenges, where two photon pairs are simultaneously produced in the visible and infrared regions in periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalite. It allows broadband and tunable generation of infrared photon pairs that can be employed as an alternative light source for quantum infrared spectroscopy.

Telecom Quantum Photonic Interface for a 40Ca+ Single-Ion Quantum Memory

Elena Arenskötter, Tobias Bauer, Stephan Kucera +3 more

Entanglement-based quantum networks require quantum photonic interfaces between station- ary quantum memories and photons, enabling entanglement distribution. Here we present such a photonic interface, designed for connecting a 40Ca+ single-ion quantum memory to the tele- com C-band. The interface combines a memory-resonant, cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) photon pair source with bi-directional polarization-conserving quantum frequency conversion (QFC). We demonstrate preservation of high-fidelity entanglement during con- version, fiber transmission over up to 40 km and back-conversion to the memory wavelength. Even for the longest distance and bi-directional conversion the entanglement fidelity remains larger than 95% (98%) without (with) background correction.
