Abstract

Abstract The paper considers the implementation of logical operations with sets presented as images in the accumulated photon echo mode. It is shown that the photon echo mode may be used to perform the operation of combining sets.

Controlling logical operations with images in accumulated echo holography using the effects of information locking and erasing

Abstract The possibility of implementing logical operations with images using the accumulated echo hologram in the presence of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields is considered. It is shown that the photon echo locking effect makes it possible to control the execution of logical operations (from the union of sets to the symmetric difference and their superposition), as well to control their form by varying the values of the gradients of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields and the phase difference between pairs of pulses.

The implementation of logical operations on signals using stimulated echo-holography in the case when it is excited using an object laser pulse carrying information and a pulse acting as a frequency filter is considered. Ihe realization of logical operations for images using an accumulated echo hologram in the presence of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields is considered. It is shown that the photon echo locking effect allows controlling the type of logical operations (from uniting the sets to their symmetric difference and superposition) by varying the values of gradients of external spatially inhomogeneous electric fields.

Dynamic spatial and temporal properties of accumulated stimulated and modified stimulated photon echoes are considered. Possible applications to optical information processing systems for the temporal compression of the recorded information, the erasure of information, as well as for the correlation analysis of optical images are discussed.© (1993) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
