A characterization of positive linear maps and criteria of entanglement for quantum states

Jinchuan Hou

Let H and K be (finite- or infinite-dimensional) complex Hilbert spaces. A characterization of positive completely bounded normal linear maps from into is given, which particularly gives a characterization of positive elementary operators including all positive linear maps between matrix algebras. This characterization is then applied to give a representation of quantum channels (operations) between infinite-dimensional systems. A necessary and sufficient criterion of separability is given which shows that a state ρ on H ⊗ K is separable if and only if (Φ⊗ I )ρ ⩾ 0 for all positive finite-rank elementary operators Φ. Examples of NCP and indecomposable positive linear maps are given and are used to recognize some entangled states that cannot be recognized by the PPT criterion and the realignment criterion.

Optimal approximate transpose map via quantum designs and its applications to entanglement detection

Amir Kalev, Joonwoo Bae

We show that quantum designs characterize the general structure of the optimal approximation of the transpose map on quantum states. Based on this characterization, we propose an implementation of the approximate transpose map by a measurement-and-preparation scheme. The results show that state manipulation in quantum two-designs suffices for transpose-based quantum-information applications. In particular, we present how these results can be applied to the framework of detecting multipartite entangled states, for instance, when local measurements or interferometry-based experimental approaches are applied.

Interpolating between Positive and Completely Positive Maps: A New Hierarchy of Entangled States

Katarzyna Siudzińska, Sagnik Chakraborty, Dariusz Chruściński

A new class of positive maps is introduced. It interpolates between positive and completely positive maps. It is shown that this class gives rise to a new characterization of entangled states. Additionally, it provides a refinement of the well-known classes of entangled states characterized in terms of the Schmidt number. The analysis is illustrated with examples of qubit maps.
