Abstract

The 2D space-fractional Schrödinger equation in the time-independent and time-dependent cases for the scattering problems in the fractional quantum mechanics is studied. We define the Green's functions for the two cases and give the mathematical expression of them in infinite series form and in terms of some special functions. The asymptotic formulas of the Green's functions are also given, and applied to get the approximate wave functions for the fractional quantum scattering problems. These results contain those in the standard (integer) quantum mechanics as special cases, and can be applied to study the complex quantum systems.

Some physical applications of fractional Schrödinger equation

Xiaoyi Guo, Mingyu Xu

The fractional Schrödinger equation is solved for a free particle and for an infinite square potential well. The fundamental solution of the Cauchy problem for a free particle, the energy levels and the normalized wave functions of a particle in a potential well are obtained. In the barrier penetration problem, the reflection coefficient and transmission coefficient of a particle from a rectangular potential wall is determined. In the quantum scattering problem, according to the fractional Schrödinger equation, the Green’s function of the Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation is given.

Quantum Mechanics and Control Using Fractional Calculus: A Study of the Shutter Problem for Fractional Quantum Fields

Jonathan Blackledge

The ‘diffraction in space’ and the ‘diffraction in time’ phenomena are considered in regard to a continuously open, and a closed shutter that is opened at an instant in time, respectively. The purpose of this is to provide a background to the principal theme of this article, which is to extend the ‘quantum shutter problem’ for the case when the wave function is determined by the fundamental solution to a partial differential equation with a fractional derivative of space or of time. This involves the development of Green’s function solutions for the space- and time-fractional Schrödinger equation and the time-fractional Klein–Gordon equation (for the semi-relativistic case). In each case, the focus is on the development of primarily one-dimensional solutions, subject to an initial condition which controls the dynamical behaviour of the wave function. Coupled with variations in the fractional order of the fractional derivatives, illustrative example results are provided that are based on presenting space-time maps of the wave function; specifically, the probability density of the wave function. In this context, the paper provides a case study of fractional quantum mechanics and control using fractional calculus.

The time-dependent Schrödinger equation in three dimensions under geometric constraints

Irina Petreska, Antonio S. M. de Castro, Trifce Sandev +1 more

We consider a quantum motion governed by the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on a three dimensional comb structure. We derive the corresponding fractional Schrödinger equations for the reduced probability density functions by projection of the three dimensional comb dynamics in the two- and one-dimensional configuration space. This represents another physical example of a system where fractional calculus emerges. We give closed-form solutions of the corresponding equations for the reduced probability density functions in terms of the Fox H-function, by using the Green’s function approach.

Infinite wall in the fractional quantum mechanics

Jianping Dong, Ying Lu

The space-fractional Schrödinger equation for a local potential is difficult to solve because the fractional Riesz operator in it is nonlocal. In fractional quantum mechanics, the infinite wall is a basic problem and has not been solved yet. In this paper, we consider a free particle in an infinite wall region. Making use of the Lévy path integral method, we derive the Lévy path integral amplitude of the particle and take advantage of it to get the solution of the fractional Schrödinger equation for an infinite wall. Then, the infinite wall potential with a delta-function perturbation is also studied. According to Fox’s H-function, we get an equation of bound state energies of a free particle moving in an infinite wall region perturbed by the δ-function for two situations, E < 0 and E > 0. We give a transcendental equation that determines energy levels when E < 0 and prove that there is no bound states when E > 0. The asymptotic behaviors of the center of the delta function approaching to the origin and the infinite are also shown. The results of this paper include special cases in standard quantum mechanics.

Explicit Quantum Green Function for Scattering Problems in 2-D Potential

Brahim Benali, Mohammed Tayeb Meftah

In this work, we present a new result which concerns the derivation of the Green function relative to the time-independent Schrodinger equation in two dimensional space. The system considered in this work is a quantum particle that have an energy E and moves in an axi-symmetrical potential. Precisely, we have assumed that the potential V(r), in which the quantum particle moves, to be equal to zero inside a disk (radius b) and to be equal a positive constant V0 in a crown of internal radius b and external radius a (b < a) and equal zero outside the crown (r > a). We have explored the diffusion states regime for which E > V0. We have used, to obtain the Green function, the continuity of the solution and of its first derivative at r = b and r = a. We have obtained the associate Green function showing the resonance energies (absence of the reflected waves) for the case E > V0.
