Abstract

In this paper, we analyze the secrecy performance of the decode-and-forward (DF) relay system in generalized-K fading channels. In a typical four-node communications model, a source (S) sends confidential information to a destination (D) via a relay (R) using DF strategy in two time slots, while an eavesdropper (E) wants to overhear the information from S to D over generalized-K fading channels. To be more realistic, we assume that E can receive the signals of two time slots, and there is no direct link between S and D because of heavy fading. Based on those assumptions, we derive closed-form expressions for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC) by using a tight approximate probability density function of the generalized-K model. Furthermore, asymptotic expressions for the SOP and ESC are also derived in the high signal-to-noise ratio region, not only because we can get some insights about SOP and ESC, but also because expressions for SOP and ESC can be simplified significantly. The single relay system is subsequently extended into a multi-relay system, where the asymptotic SOP analysis of three proposed relay selection strategies is investigated. Moreover, the security-reliability tradeoff analysis in the multi-relay system is also presented given that S adopts a constant code rate. Finally, the Monte-Carlo simulation is used to demonstrate the accuracy of the derived closed-form expressions.

Secrecy Performance Analysis for MIMO-DF Relay Systems With MRT/MRC and TZF/MRC Schemes

Tran Manh Hoang, Le The Dung, Bá Cao Nguyễn +2 more

Transmit beamforming is a diversity technique in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. It improves the diversity order and enhances the information security of the MIMO systems. In this paper, we mathematically analyze the secure performance of a MIMO decode-and-forward (DF) relay system under the presence of an eavesdropper and with the imperfect channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropping channel. To enhance the secrecy performance, we employ multiple antennas at all legitimate nodes and utilize two linear beamforming schemes, i.e., maximal ratio transmission (MRT) and transmission zero-forcing (TZF), at the transmitter and maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme at the receiver. The probability density function (PDF) of the output SNR for different numbers of antennas at the transmitter and receiver is plotted and discussed. After that, we apply this PDF to derive the closed-form expressions of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC) of the considered MIMO-DF relay system over Rayleigh fading channels for MRT/MRC and TZF/MRC schemes. In addition, based on the obtained analysis results, we provide the location of the relay that minimizes the system SOPs. All the analysis results are validated by Monte-Carlo simulations. The results show that the TZF/MRC scheme provides better SOP and ESC than the MRT/MRC scheme. Moreover, the number of antennas at the legitimate nodes and the location of the eavesdropper significantly impact the secrecy performance.

Secrecy Performance of Cellular Multiuser Two-Way Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks

Anshul Pandey, Suneel Yadav

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy performance of cellular multiuser two-way decode-and-forward (DF) relay networks with physical-layer security constraints, wherein a multiantenna base station (BS) communicates bidirectionally with several single-antenna mobile stations (MSs) via single-antenna DF relay in the presence of a single-antenna eavesdropper. We employ antenna selection (AS) transmission scheme at the BS with MS scheduling. Specifically, we derive the closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of the considered system under independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Rayleigh fading channels. To gain more insights into the system secrecy diversity order, we analyze the asymptotic secrecy outage behavior in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. Our results reveal that the SOP saturates in the medium-to-high SNR regime, and reduces the secrecy diversity order to zero. Finally, the numerical and simulation corroborate our theoretical and analytical findings.

An analysis of secrecy outage performance of DF and RF \\relaying SIMO system with imperfect CSI

Danyang Wang, Gaofeng Pan, Hui ZHAO

This paper presents an investigation of the physical layer secrecy outage performance of the cooperative system in the typical four-node (source, relay, destination, and eavesdropper) scenario with imperfect channel state information (CSI). Specifically, we consider the single-input multiple-output wiretap channels, where the source (S) and the relay (R) are equipped with a single antenna, and the destination (D) and the eavesdropper (E) are equipped with multiple antennas. D and E adopt maximal ratio combining to process multiple copies of signals, and the relay adopts decode-and-forward (DF) and randomize-and-forward (RF) schemes to forward the received signal to the destination. E overhears the information transmitted over both the S-R and R-D links. We derive the closed-form and asymptotic expressions for the secrecy outage probability under both the DF and RF schemes with imperfect CSI, respectively, the accuracy of which is verified by simulation results.

Physical Layer Secrecy Performance of Multi-hop Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks with Multiple Eavesdroppers

Duc‐Dung Tran, Nguyen‐Son Vo, Tan-Loc Vo +1 more

Today, wireless networks become the most popular way to communicate. However, information can be easily eavesdropped or extracted by eavesdroppers due to the broadcast nature of wireless communication. Multi-hop relay communication systems provide for higher secrecy performance than direct transmission techniques. In this paper, the physical layer secrecy performance of multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relay network is investigated in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers over Nakagami-m fading channels. To do so, we find out the exact closed-form expressions of existence probability of secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability by using statistical characteristics of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Importantly, these expressions are in more general forms compared to other results in the literature. The proposed results show a quite agreement between numerical analysis and equivalent Monte-Carlo simulations.

Some Discussions on PHY Security in DF Relay

Chongjun Ouyang, Hao Xu, Xujie Zang +1 more

Physical layer (PHY) security in decode-and-forward (DF) relay systems is discussed. Based on the types of wiretap links, the secrecy performance of three typical secure DF relay models is analyzed. Different from conventional works in this field, rigorous derivations of the secrecy channel capacity are provided from an information-theoretic perspective. Meanwhile, closed-form expressions are derived to characterize the secrecy outage probability (SOP). For the sake of unveiling more system insights, asymptotic analyses are performed on the SOP for a sufficiently large signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The analytical results are validated by computer simulations and are in excellent agreement.
