Abstract

We measure Joint Spectral Intensity of photon pairs generated in normal group-velocity-dispersion regime and identify the spectral correlation of bi-photons. The photon-pair generation scheme in this study can be a good quantum light source.

We present photon pairs generated near the pump wavelength in the normal GVD regime by spontaneous four-wave mixing. The generated photons have temporal and spectral correlations and can be exploited as telecom-band quantum light sources.

Controllable Photon-Pair Spectral Correlations

Martin Cordier, Benoît Debord, Frédéric Gérôme +3 more

Photon-pair states, whether spectrally correlated or separable, can all be very useful in quantum technology applications. For example, the former are used for improving the security of quantum key distribution, whilst the latter are the backbone in heralded single photon sources. It has been shown that the amount of spectral correlations is well-described by the shape of the Joint Spectral Amplitude function (JSA), which mostly depends on the relative group velocity relation between the pump, signal and idler photons within the source medium [1].

Spectral study of photon pairs generated in dispersion shifted fiber with a pulsed pump

Xiaoying Li, Xiaoxin Ma, Zhe Yu Ou +3 more

Spectral correlation of photon pairs generated in dispersion shifted fiber by a pulsed pump is theoretically analyzed and experimentally investigated. We first calculate the spectral function of photon pairs according to the deduced two-photon state generated by spontaneous four wave mixing under the assumptions close to the real experimental conditions. We then experimentally study the spectral property of the signal and idler photon pairs generated in optical fiber by photon correlation measurements, and the experimental results agree with the calculation. The investigation is useful for developing fiber-based sources of entangled photon pairs and for studying multi-photon quantum interference with multiple photon pairs.

We experimentally tailor the joint spectra of photon pairs produced via dual-pump spontaneous four-wave mixing, achieving a joint spectral intensity without side-lobes. This work presents a new route towards generating spectrally uncorrelated photon pairs.

Effects of self- and cross-phase modulation on photon purity for four-wave-mixing photon pair sources

Bryn A. Bell, Alex R. McMillan, Will McCutcheon +1 more

We consider the effect of self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation on the joint spectral amplitude of photon pairs generated by spontaneous four-wave mixing. In particular, the purity of a heralded photon from a pair is considered in the context of schemes that aim to maximize the purity and minimize correlation in the joint spectral amplitude using birefringent phase matching and short pump pulses. We find that nonlinear phase-modulation effects will be detrimental and will limit the quantum interference visibility that can be achieved at a given generation rate. An approximate expression for the joint spectral amplitude with phase modulation is found by considering the group velocity walk-off between each photon and the pump but neglecting the group-velocity dispersion at each wavelength. The group-velocity dispersion can also be included with a numerical calculation, and it is shown that it has only a small effect on the purity for the realistic parameters considered.
