Abstract

Structures of photonic crystal fibers are proposed for the generation of broadband single photon states using the process of spontaneous four-wave mixing. New types of structures are modeled mathematically. The spectral and correlation characteristics of the generated states are calculated.

Generation of broadband single-photon states in photonic-crystal fibers with flattened dispersion profiles

Ilya Chuprina, Латыпов Ильнур Зиннурович

We theoretically analyze the capability of generating broadband single-photon states in photonic crystal fibers (PCF) formed by spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) using femtosecond laser pulses. The design of PCF structures with the flat dispersion profile is proposed. The characteristics of the correlated photon pairs with a broadband spectrum and low spectral correlation for these structures are calculated.

We studied the theoretical possibility of generating single-photon states in fibers with active profile dispersion formed by spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) using femtosecond laser pulses. The possibility of eliminating the spectral correlation for single-photon states generated in commercial fibers was assessed. To model the structure of photonic crystal fibers and the modes of SFWM generation, an optimization was performed on the parameters of the pump and the fiber structure.

Photon pair-state preparation with tailored spectral properties by spontaneous four-wave mixing in photonic-crystal fiber

Karina Garay-Palmett, Hayden McGuinness, Offir Cohen +7 more

We study theoretically the generation of photon pairs by spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in photonic crystal optical fiber. We show that it is possible to engineer two-photon states with specific spectral correlation ("entanglement") properties suitable for quantum information processing applications. We focus on the case exhibiting no spectral correlations in the two-photon component of the state, which we call factorability, and which allows heralding of single-photon pure-state wave packets without the need for spectral post filtering. We show that spontaneous four wave mixing exhibits a remarkable flexibility, permitting a wider class of two-photon states, including ultra-broadband, highly-anticorrelated states.

Bright photonic crystal fiber source of photon pairs in visible-telecom band

A. F. Khairullin, Maksim A. Smirnov, Ilya V. Fedotov +2 more

An actual task of quantum communications over long distances is the creation of a bright source of photon pairs operating at standard wavelengths of fiber optic communication lines. In this work, we experimentally investigated the spectral and correlation characteristics of photon pairs generated on the phenomenon of spontaneous four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear photonic-crystal fiber with a wavelength of one of the photons near 1.5 μm. The demonstrated source can be used as an efficient single photon generator at a telecommunications wavelength with prediction and tuning over a wide spectral range.

The theoretical analysis shows the un-uniform dispersion of photonic crystal fiber with inhomogeneous structure will lead to modulated spectra of photon pairs, and our experimental observations agree with the theoretical predictions.
