Construction of Generalized Quantum Boolean Functions

Abstract

The existing construction methods of Quantum Boolean functions (QBFs) are extended and simplified. All QBFs with one qubit and all local QBFs with any qubits are constructed. And we propose the concept of Generalized quantum Boolean functions (GQBFs). We find all GQBFs with one qutrit and all kinds of local GQBFs with any qutrits. The number of each of the four kinds of functions above is uncountably infinitely many. By using diagonal matrices, we obtain uncountably infinitely many non-local QBFs with any qubits and GQBFs with any qutrits. Infinitely many families of GQBFs with any qudits are obtained from the properties of projection matrices of known saturated orthogonal arrays.

Constructions of Quantum Boolean Functions

Jie Zhang, Qiaoyan Wen

A construction of all kinds of quantum Boolean functions with one qubit is proposed. Base on these quantum Boolean functions, all kinds of local quantum Boolean functions (the natural generalization of linear classical Boolean functions) are given. Furthermore some infinite families of quantum Boolean functions with any qubits are obtained together.

Quantum Query Algorithm Constructions for Computing AND, OR and MAJORITY Boolean Functions

Alina Vasilieva

Quantum algorithms can be analyzed in a query model to compute Boolean functions where input is given in a black box and the aim is to compute function value for arbitrary input using as few queries as possible. We concentrate on quantum query algorithm designing tasks in this paper. The main aim of the research was to find new efficient algorithms and develop general algorithm designing techniques. First, we present several exact quantum query algorithms for certain problems that are better than classical counterparts. Next, we introduce algorithm transformation methods that allow significant enlarging of exactly computable functions sets. Finally, we propose quantum algorithm designing methods. Given algorithms for the set of sub-functions, our methods use them to design a more complex one, based on algorithms described before. Methods are applicable for input algorithms with specific properties and preserve acceptable error probability and number of queries. Methods offer constructions for computing AND, OR and MAJORITY kinds of Boolean functions.

Boolean Functions, Projection Operators, and Quantum Error Correcting Codes

Vaneet Aggarwal, A.R. Calderbank

This paper describes a fundamental correspondence between Boolean functions and projection operators in Hilbert space. The correspondence is widely applicable, and it is used in this paper to provide a common mathematical framework for the design of both additive and nonadditive quantum error correcting codes. The new framework leads to the construction of a variety of codes including an infinite class of codes that extend the original ((5, 6, 2)) code found by Rains It also extends to operator quantum error correcting codes.

Polynomial Representation of General Partial Boolean Functions with a Single Quantum Query

Guoliang Xu, Daowen Qiu

Early in 1992, Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm computed a symmetric partial Boolean function with a single quantum query, and thus achieved the best separation between classical deterministic and exact quantum query complexity. Recently, it was clarified that all symmetric partial Boolean functions with a single quantum query can be computed exactly by Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm. For the general partial Boolean functions with a single quantum query, the latest characterizations is complex and not very satisfactory. Based on this, this paper proves and discovers three new results: (1) Under a new equivalence, each partial Boolean function with a single quantum query can be transformed to a simple partial Boolean function whose polynomial degree is just one; (2) For partial Boolean functions up to four bits, there are only 10 non-trivial partial Boolean functions with a single quantum query; (3) For each quantum 1-query algorithm with undefined measurement, there exists a constructive method for finding out all partial Boolean functions that can be computed exactly by the algorithm.

Partial Boolean Functions With Exact Quantum Query Complexity One

Guoliang Xu, Daowen Qiu

We provide two sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize any n-bit partial Boolean function with exact quantum query complexity 1. Using the first characterization, we present all n-bit partial Boolean functions that depend on n bits and can be computed exactly by a 1-query quantum algorithm. Due to the second characterization, we construct a function F that maps any n-bit partial Boolean function to some integer, and if an n-bit partial Boolean function f depends on k bits and can be computed exactly by a 1-query quantum algorithm, then F(f) is non-positive. In addition, we show that the number of all n-bit partial Boolean functions that depend on k bits and can be computed exactly by a 1-query quantum algorithm is not bigger than an upper bound depending on n and k. Most importantly, the upper bound is far less than the number of all n-bit partial Boolean functions for all efficiently big n.
