QUANTUM THEORY BASED ON FUZZY SETS

Abstract

A new probability model based on the theory of fuzzy sets is presented. In thismodel, a difference of comparable fuzzy sets is the primary operation. The idea ofa difference of fuzzy sets (fuzzy events) is simple: If we have two comparable eventsa and b ( a ≤ b ), then our knowledge on a and b entails the complete knowledge ofthe complement of a in b , i. e., b ⊖ a .The new algebraic structure of fuzzy sets is called a difference poset (a D-poset) offuzzy sets. Some properties of a lattice ordered D-poset of fuzzy sets (a D-lattice offuzzy sets) are studied. An MV-algebra of fuzzy sets (a Bold algebra) is characterizedin the D-poset of fuzzy sets set-up. The sufficient and necessary conditions for a Dlatticeof fuzzy sets to be a Bold algebra are given. The basic notions of the quantumlogic theory - a state and an observable are defined in D-posets of fuzzy sets.

ON SOME CONTRIBUTIONS TO QUANTUM STRUCTURES BY FUZZY SETS

Beloslav Rie

It is well known that the fuzzy sets theory can be successfully used in quantum models ([5,26]). In this paper we give first a review of recent development in the probability theory on tribes and their generalizations ‐ multivalued (MV)-algebras. Secondly we show some applications of the described method to develop probability theory on IF-events.

FUZZY QUANTUM MODELS

ANATOLU DVUREĆENSKIJ, Beloslav Riečan

We present some models of quantum mechanics which use fuzzy set approaches: fuzzy measurable spaces and fuzzy quantum posets of two types. Also presented are compatibility problems, observables and their representations, functional calculus of observables, and states (= probability measures).

Can Fuzzy Sets Be Useful in the (Re) Interpretation of Uncertainty in Quantum Mechanics?

Rudolf Seising

New scientific theories have been and will always be required for the progress of science. Two examples of new theories that were advanced in the 20th century are quantum mechanics and fuzzy set theory. Both deal with the concept of uncertainty and both use mathematical tools that are essentially different from those used in classical probability theory. In both, the introduction of new concepts (theoretical terms) was necessary because phenomena and processes observed in the real world could not be explained with existing mathematical concepts. This paper examines the possibilities of (re)interpreting uncertainty in quantum mechanics with the aid of fuzzy sets and systems

Quantum Fuzzy Sets: Blending Fuzzy Set Theory and Quantum Computation

Mirco A. Mannucci

In this article we investigate a way in which quantum computing can be used to extend the class of fuzzy sets. The core idea is to see states of a quantum register as characteristic functions of quantum fuzzy subsets of a given set. As the real unit interval is embedded in the Bloch sphere, every fuzzy set is automatically a quantum fuzzy set. However, a generic quantum fuzzy set can be seen as a (possibly entangled) superposition of many fuzzy sets at once, offering new opportunities for modeling uncertainty. After introducing the main framework of quantum fuzzy set theory, we analyze the standard operations of fuzzification and defuzzification from our viewpoint. We conclude this preliminary paper with a list of possible applications of quantum fuzzy sets to pattern recognition, as well as future directions of pure research in quantum fuzzy set theory.

On Boolean posets of numerical events

Dietmar W. Dorninger, Helmut Länger

Abstract With many physical processes in which quantum mechanical phenomena can occur, it is essential to take into account a decision mechanism based on measurement data. This can be achieved by means of so-called numerical events, which are specified as follows: Let S be a set of states of a physical system and p(s) the probability of the occurrence of an event when the system is in state $$s\in S$$ s ∈ S . A function $$p:S\rightarrow [0,1]$$ p : S → [ 0 , 1 ] is called a numerical event or alternatively, an S-probability. If a set P of S-probabilities is ordered by the order of real functions, it becomes a poset which can be considered as a quantum logic. In case the logic P is a Boolean algebra, this will indicate that the underlying physical system is a classical one. The goal of this paper is to study sets of S-probabilities which are not far from being Boolean algebras by means of the addition and comparison of functions that occur in these sets. In particular, certain classes of so-called Boolean posets of S-probabilities are characterized and related to each other and descriptions based on sets of states are derived.
