Abstract

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of a multiuser system that utilizes transmit antenna selection scheme at the base station and adopts threshold-based selection diversity opportunistic scheduling over legitimate nodes. The legitimate transmission suffers from the presence of noncolluding (Non-Col) and colluding (Col) multiple passive eavesdroppers. Both the legitimate and eavesdropping nodes are assumed to suffer from co-channel interference (CCI) signals from independent channels that follow Rayleigh fading. Closed-form expressions for the probability density functions and cumulative density functions of the end-to-end signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio for both eavesdropping scenarios in the presence of CCI signals are derived. In addition, closed-form expressions for the network secrecy outage probability (SOP) for Non-Col/Col scenarios are derived. At the high signal-to-noise ratio values, closed-form expressions for the asymptotic secrecy outage probabilities are obtained. Following this obtained asymptotic analysis, an optimization problem for power allocation is formulated and solved to improve the secrecy performance of the network by minimizing the asymptotic SOP for both Col and Non-Col cases. The derived analytical expressions are then validated using both simulations and numerical results.

PHY Security Enhancement of Threshold-Based User Selection in Co-Channel Interference Environment

Tonny Ssettumba, Ahmed Hassan Abd El-Malek, Maha Mohamed Elsabrouty +1 more

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of a multiuser threshold-based transmit antenna selection scheme (TAS/tSD) in the presence of co-channel interference (CCI) signals and the existence of a passive eavesdropping node. In particular, an exact closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability is derived. Then, the asymptotic secrecy outage closed-form expression is obtained at the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values. Based on the obtained asymptotic analysis, an optimization problem for power allocation is formulated and solved to improve the secrecy performance of the system concerning minimizing the asymptotic secrecy outage probability. Numerical and simulation results are obtained to justify the obtained analysis.

Performance of opportunistic scheduling for physical layer security with transmit antenna selection

Anish Prasad Shrestha, Kyung Sup Kwak

We introduce an opportunistic scheduling to enhance the physical layer security with transmit antenna selection (TAS) in multiuser environment. We consider a wireless communication system composed of a single transmitter and multiple legitimate users in the presence of several eavesdroppers with each node having multiple antennas under quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel. The transmitter selects the best transmitting antenna and the best user to maximize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the selected user. The user and eavesdropper can employ either selection combining (SC) or maximal ratio combining (MRC) to combine the received signals. New closed-form expressions for probability of positive secrecy and outage are derived. Moreover, asymptotic analysis reveals the outage diversity gain and array gain for the proposed scheme. The impact of number of users, eavesdroppers, and antennas on secrecy performance are clearly demonstrated with mathematical analysis and numerical results.

Exploiting Opportunistic Scheduling Schemes to Improve Physical-Layer Security in MU-MISO NOMA Systems

Kyusung Shim, Toan-Van Nguyen, Beongku An

This paper studies opportunistic scheduling schemes to enhance the secrecy performance in multi-user multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems, in which a multiple antenna base station (BS) serves multiple single-antenna cell-center and cell-edge users in the presence of multiple single-antenna eavesdroppers. In order to improve the secrecy performance, we propose an opportunistic scheduling scheme, called the proposed antenna/users selection (PAUS) scheme. Additionally, we consider two practical eavesdropping scenarios, namely colluding and non-colluding eavesdroppers. We derive the exact closed-form expression for secrecy outage probability (SOP) and asymptotic SOP of the PAUS scheme under different eavesdropping scenarios. We provide the 2D golden section search-based algorithm to find the optimal values of the transmit power and power allocation coefficient that minimize the system secrecy outage performance. The developed analyses are verified by Monte Carlo simulations. The numerical results show that the PAUS scheme improves secrecy performances compared to the benchmark random antenna/users selection (RAUS) scheme. To provide further insights into the system secure performance, the effects of transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), power allocation coefficient, the number of transmit antennas at the BS, number of cell-center and cell-edge users, and the eavesdropper placements are extensively evaluated and discussed.

Optimal Power Allocation for Enhancing Physical Layer Security in Opportunistic Relay Networks in the Presence of Co-Channel Interference

Ahmed Hassan Abd El-Malek, Anas M. Salhab, Salam A. Zummo

In this paper, the impact of co-channel interference (CCI) on the secrecy performance of the dual-hop decode-and-forward relaying network is investigated. First, the security-reliability trade-off (SRT) analysis is studied for conventional single-hop networks under a single passive eavesdropper attack. Then, the SRT analysis is investigated to the opportunistic relay selection (ORS) model in the presence of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) interfering signals. Moreover, the proposed work enhances physical layer (PHY) security performance of ORS model using cooperative jamming techniques (CJ-ORS). For this purpose, new closed-form expressions are derived for intercept probability and outage probability of CJ-ORS model in the presence of interference over Rayleigh fading channels. A power allocation optimization problem is formulated and solved for enhancing the system security. The derived analytical formulas herein are supported by numerical and simulation results to clarify the main contributions of the paper.

A Secure Energy Efficient Multi-User Selection Scheme for SWIPT Wireless IoT Networks in the Presence of Cooperative Jamming

Phaisal Lubega, Tonny Ssettumba, Hanifa Nabuuma +1 more

In this paper, a downlink wiretap channel simultaneous information and power transfer (SWIPT) system model is proposed for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The system model comprises of a single antenna base station, two energy constrained legitimate sensor nodes each equipped with two antennae i.e one antenna for information reception and the other for energy harvesting. Also, the system is assumed to suffer from the presence of passive single antenna non-collaborating eavesdropping nodes. The legitimate and eavesdropping channels are assumed to follow the quasi-static Rayleigh fading distribution. Particularly, closed form expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative density function (CDF) of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the non-collaborating eavesdropping scenario are derived. Additionally, closed form expressions for the exact secrecy outage probability (SOP) and secrecy throughput are derived. Finally, numerical results are used to validate the theoretical analysis.
