Internet of things (IoT) is a developing technology with a lot of scope in the future. It can ease various different tasks for us. On one hand, IoT is useful for us, on the other hand, it has many serious security threats, like data breaches, side-channel attacks, and virus and data authentication. Classical cryptographic algorithms, like the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm, work well under the classical computers. But the technology is slowly shifting towards quantum computing, which has immense processing power and is more than enough to break the current cryptographic algorithms easily. So it is required that we have to design quantum cryptographic algorithms to prevent our systems from security breaches even before quantum computers come in the market for commercial uses. IoT will also be one of the disciplines, which needs to be secured to prevent any malicious activities. In this paper, we review the common security threats in IoT and the presently available solutions with their drawbacks. Then quantum cryptography is introduced with some of its variations. And finally, the analysis has been carried out in terms of the pros and cons of implementing quantum cryptography for IoT security.
Quantum computing has gained an advantage in recent years due to its compatibility and usage in various fields. The IoT environment is huge, and almost the whole world relies on it to enable efficient data transmissions. Security of the internet of things is a major concern. This is because it deals with personal data, has to be reliable, and can direct and manipulate device decisions in a harmful way. When quantum computing is combined with IoT, the system's performance is drastically improved. Shor's algorithm is used to secure this proposed quantum computing system for IoT. Shor's algorithm is more secure than other existing algorithms.
The Internet of Things (IoT) strongly influences the world economy; this emphasizes the importance of securing all four aspects of the IoT model: sensors, networks, cloud, and applications. Considering the significant value of public-key cryptography threats on IoT system confidentiality, it is vital to secure it. One of the potential candidates to assist in securing public key cryptography in IoT is quantum computing. Although the notion of IoT and quantum computing convergence is not new, it has been referenced in various works of literature and covered by many scholars. Quantum computing eliminates most of the challenges in IoT. This research provides a comprehensive introduction to the Internet of Things and quantum computing before moving on to public-key cryptography difficulties that may be encountered across the convergence of quantum computing and IoT. An enhanced architecture is then proposed for resolving these public-key cryptography challenges using SimuloQron to implement the BB84 protocol for quantum key distribution (QKD) and one-time pad (OTP). The proposed model prevents eavesdroppers from performing destructive operations in the communication channel and cyber side by preserving its state and protecting the public key using quantum cryptography and the BB84 protocol. A modified version is introduced for this IoT situation. A traditional cryptographic mechanism called "one-time pad" (OTP) is employed in hybrid management.
The security of the Internet of Things (IoT) is a key worry since it deals with personal data that must be dependable and can be used dangerously to control and manipulate device operations. In addition, the data generating process is heterogeneous, and the data is enormous in bulk, requiring complicated management. Quantum IoT, or Quantum Computing and IoT, is a notion of higher security design that utilizes quantum-mechanical principles on IoT security management. On the one hand, IoT is beneficial to us, but it also poses several major security risks, such as data leaks, side-channel attacks, malware, and data authentication. Classical cryptographic techniques, such as the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm, perform admirably on traditional machines. However, quantum computing, which has enormous processing capacity and is more than capable of readily breaking current cryptographic algorithms, is steadily gaining traction. As a result, even before quantum computers are commercially available, we must create post-quantum cryptography algorithms to protect our systems from security breaches. Lattice-based cryptography, as a possible option for the future post-quantum cryptography standard, has the features of strong security guarantees and great efficiency, making it ideal for IoT applications. We discuss the benefits of lattice-based cryptography and its implementations for IoT devices in this study.
As we approach Web 4.0, which relates to the uprising of internet of things (IoT)-enabled smart manufacturing devices that serve as data generator devices for companies, the responsibility of managing and securing this data is an overhead. Since the data can contain sensitive information, it is vulnerable to cyber-attacks. As advanced encryption-decryption cryptography algorithms are deficient to handle the situation, the uprising of quantum computing is making today's security mechanisms imperiled. Therefore, a quantum wall (QW) needs to be deployed for key generation which can resist potential attacks. Quantum-inspired IoT (QIoT) implies harnessing power imparted by quantum computing (QC) to secure IoT applications. It promises secure management of data throughout its life cycle. This chapter summarizes the recent relevant work conducted in this domain by conducting an intensive literature review around IoT, security implications, and how QC is making an impact in mitigating the cyber risks involved in data transfers in IoT.
