Internet of things (IoT) is a developing technology with a lot of scope in the future. It can ease various different tasks for us. On one hand, IoT is useful for us, on the other hand, it has many serious security threats, like data breaches, side-channel attacks, and virus and data authentication. Classical cryptographic algorithms, like the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm, work well under the classical computers. But the technology is slowly shifting towards quantum computing, which has immense processing power and is more than enough to break the current cryptographic algorithms easily. So it is required that we have to design quantum cryptographic algorithms to prevent our systems from security breaches even before quantum computers come in the market for commercial uses. IoT will also be one of the disciplines, which needs to be secured to prevent any malicious activities. In this paper, we review the common security threats in IoT and the presently available solutions with their drawbacks. Then quantum cryptography is introduced with some of its variations. And finally, the analysis has been carried out in terms of the pros and cons of implementing quantum cryptography for IoT security.

Internet of things (IoT), is a system of associated computing devices, digital and mechanical machines, objects, animal and people that are provided with their unique identifiers (UIDS). However, it is very much sensitive from several security threats. IoT is a wireless technology that correlates anything around the internet. Classical cryptography algorithm (like RAS) works well, but the technology is upgraded towards quantum computing, it has extensive power to break the classical cryptographic algorithm easily.IoT is one of the disciplines, which needs to be secured to prevent malicious activities. There is a need of a robust cryptosystem for IoT. In this paper the review of quantum cryptography for IoT system security. The explanation of what are the security threats and quantum key distribution by using the essence of quantum and IoT system.
Cryptographic algorithms are crucial for secure communication in the Internet of Things (IoT). Quantum computers threaten public key cryptography algorithms like RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) and Diffie-Hellman (DH) key exchange schemes, which are widely in use today. As cryptographic algorithms are the foundation of secure internet communication, the development of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) is essential to protect transactions over the internet. However, solutions like Quantum Key Distribution require heavy infrastructure. So, it is not feasible for the Internet of Things with fewer resources in computing power and form factor. Post-Quantum Cryptography is helpful on these devices. But, it needs further developments and improvements. This paper analyzes cryptography algorithms and protocols of IoT with different categories. Integrated PQC of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) third level finalists on Raspberry Pi 4 (RPI4) board with Linux operating system. The performance of Post-Quantum Cryptography schemes for IoT has been evaluated. Finally, a Post-Quantum Cryptography scheme has been suggested for the Internet of Things based on the performance analysis.
The security of the Internet of Things (IoT) is a key worry since it deals with personal data that must be dependable and can be used dangerously to control and manipulate device operations. In addition, the data generating process is heterogeneous, and the data is enormous in bulk, requiring complicated management. Quantum IoT, or Quantum Computing and IoT, is a notion of higher security design that utilizes quantum-mechanical principles on IoT security management. On the one hand, IoT is beneficial to us, but it also poses several major security risks, such as data leaks, side-channel attacks, malware, and data authentication. Classical cryptographic techniques, such as the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm, perform admirably on traditional machines. However, quantum computing, which has enormous processing capacity and is more than capable of readily breaking current cryptographic algorithms, is steadily gaining traction. As a result, even before quantum computers are commercially available, we must create post-quantum cryptography algorithms to protect our systems from security breaches. Lattice-based cryptography, as a possible option for the future post-quantum cryptography standard, has the features of strong security guarantees and great efficiency, making it ideal for IoT applications. We discuss the benefits of lattice-based cryptography and its implementations for IoT devices in this study.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has grown rapidly, transforming various aspects of daily life into intelligent systems capable of collecting and exchanging data in real time. At the same time, advances in quantum computing have given rise to powerful quantum computers capable of processing complex tasks at unprecedented speed. This disparity between the limited resources of IoT devices and the capabilities of quantum computers poses significant security challenges. Quantum computers introduce new vulnerabilities that threaten IoT systems, particularly in critical applications such as connected healthcare, industrial networks, smart infrastructure, and secure embedded systems. This study reviews the existing literature on post-quantum cryptography (PQC) applied to IoT devices. It analyzes the characteristics and security requirements of IoT environments, current security technologies, and unresolved issues. It highlights the growing threat of post-quantum attacks and the need to adapt security strategies. Finally, the study explores post-quantum code-based cryptosystems as solutions to enhance the security of resource-constrained IoT applications and ensure their resilience against future challenges.
The globe is observing the emergence of the Internet of Things more prominently recognized as IoT. In this day and age, there exist numerous technological apparatuses that possess the capability to be interconnected with the internet and can amass, convey, and receive information concerning the users. This technology endeavors to simplify existence, however, when the users' information is the central concern for IoT operation, it is necessary to adhere to security measures to guarantee privacy and prevent the exploitation of said information. The customary cryptographic algorithms, such as RSA, AES, and DES, may perform adequately with older technologies such as conventional computers or laptops. Nevertheless, contemporary technologies are heading towards quantum computing, and this latter form possesses a processing capability that can effortlessly jeopardize the aforementioned cryptographic algorithms. Therefore, there arises an imperative necessity for a novel and resilient cryptographic algorithm. To put it differently, there is a requirement to devise a fresh algorithm, impervious to quantum computing, that can shield the information from assaults perpetrated utilizing quantum computing. IoT is one of the domains that must ensure the security of the information against malevolent activities. Besides the conventional cryptography that enciphers information into bits, quantum encryption utilizes qubits, specifically photons and photon polarization, to encode data.
The security of our data is the prime priority as it is said “Data is the new Oil”. Nowadays, most of our communications are either recorded or forged. There are algorithms used under classical encryption, such as Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA), digital signature, elliptic-curve cryptography (ECC), and more, to protect our communication and data. However, these algorithms are breakable with the help of Quantum Cryptography. In addition, this technology provides the most secure form of communication between entities under the fundamental law of Physics. Here, we are abiding to discuss the term “Quantum Cryptography.” The aim of this paper is to explore the knowledge related to the Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Key Distribution; and their elements, implementation, and the latest research. Moreover, exploration of the loopholes and the security of Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure and current used classical cryptographic algorithms are described in the paper.
