Abstract

This paper studies the secure transmission for downlink multiple-input single-output (MISO) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system in which imperfect channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper links is considered. We propose the novel robust beamforming strategies for the direct transmission NOMA (DT NOMA) and cooperative jamming NOMA (CJ NOMA) with a helper. We formulate our problem as the worst-case sum power minimization subject to secrecy rate constraint. The semidefinite relaxation (SDR) method is firstly applied to relax the quadratic terms and rank-one optimality is proved. Then an iterative algorithm based on successive convex approximation (SCA) is proposed to transform the nonconvex problem into convex approximations. Simulation results show that both the proposed NOMA schemes outperform the orthogonal multiple scheme, and CJ NOMA scheme can achieve much better system performance gain than DT NOMA scheme.

Robust Secure Beamforming Design for Two-User Downlink MISO Rate-Splitting Systems

Hao Fu, Suili Feng, Weijun Tang +1 more

In this paper, we consider max-min fairness for a downlink two-user multi-input single-output (MISO) system with imperfect channel state information available at transmitter (CSIT) taking into account the total power constraint and the physical layer security. Considering the worst-case channel uncertainty for a potential eavesdropper (PE), we study the robust secure beamforming algorithm design which maximizes the minimum achieved worst-case secrecy rate among single-antenna legitimate users. In contrast to existing schemes adopted in the literatures, we propose a rather unorthodox rate splitting (RS) scheme which advocates the dual use of a common message serving both as a desired message and artificial noise (AN) for legitimate users and the PE, respectively. The algorithm design is formulated as a non-convex optimization problem which is generally intractable. As a compromise approach, we apply the successive convex approximation (SCA) method which facilitates the design of a low-complexity suboptimal iterative algorithm. In each iteration, a rank-constrained semi-definite program (SDP) is solved optimally by SDP relaxation (SDR). Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed robust secure beamforming scheme in the MISO-RS secure transmission system outperforms that of the non-robust counterpart. Moreover, our results also unveil that the proposed RS scheme can achieve a superior performance compared to the existing non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) schemes and the traditional scheme.

Robust MISO Beamforming With Cooperative Jamming for Secure Transmission From Perspectives of QoS and Secrecy Rate

Hui Ma, Julian Cheng, Xianfu Wang +1 more

Robust quality-of-service (QoS)-based and secrecy rate-based secure transmission designs are investigated for a multiple-input single-output system with multiple eavesdroppers and a cooperative jammer. Two scenarios are considered: (a) eavesdroppers' channel state information (ECSI) is available and (b) ECSI is unavailable. In scenario (a), a QoS-based design is considered to minimize the worst case signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio at the eavesdroppers and to guarantee the QoS of the legitimate receiver. A secrecy rate-based design is also studied where the worst case secrecy rate is maximized. In scenario (b), a QoS-based design is considered to maximize the power of jamming signals under the QoS constraint of the legitimate receiver, and the secrecy rate-based design is not applicable. In all these designs, we jointly optimize the transmit beamforming vector and the covariance matrix of jamming signals under individual power constraints. As the optimization problems are non-convex, we propose an algorithm for each problem through semidefinite relaxation. Our analysis and simulation results show that, even though the linear precoding scheme in our designs is transmit beamforming rather than the general rank transmit covariance, this does not cause any loss of optimality.

Robust Secure Transmission in MISO Channels Based on Worst-Case Optimization

Jing Huang, Arnold Lee Swindlehurst

This paper studies robust transmission schemes for multiple-input single-output (MISO) wiretap channels. Both the cases of direct transmission and cooperative jamming with a helper are investigated with imperfect channel state information (CSI) for the eavesdropper links. Robust transmit covariance matrices are obtained based on worst-case secrecy rate maximization, under both individual and global power constraints. For the case of an individual power constraint, we show that the nonconvex maximin optimization problem can be transformed into a quasi-convex problem that can be efficiently solved with existing methods. For a global power constraint, the joint optimization of the transmit covariance matrices and power allocation between the source and the helper is studied. We also investigate the robust wiretap transmission problem for the case with a quality-of-service constraint at the legitimate receiver. Numerical results show the advantage of the proposed robust design. In particular, for the global power constraint scenario, although cooperative jamming is not necessary for optimal transmission with perfect eavesdropper's CSI, we show that robust jamming support can increase the worst-case secrecy rate and lower the signal to interference-plus-noise ratio at the eavesdropper in the presence of channel mismatches between the transmitters and the eavesdropper.

Transmit Beamforming Designs for Secure Transmission in MISO-NOMA Networks

Yanbo Zhang, Zheng Yang, Jingjing Cui +4 more

In this paper, we consider a downlink multiple-input single-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MISO-NOMA) network with several legitimate users and a eavesdropper using successive interference cancellation (SIC). The purpose of this paper is to maximize the secrecy performance of the MISO-NOMA network by designing the transmit power between the legitimate users and the artificial jamming. Explicitly, the secrecy sum rate of the MISO-NOMA network is to be maximized by optimizing the transmit beamforming vectors and the artificial jamming vector, subject to the required quality of service of each legitimate user, the artificial jamming beamforming design constraint and the SIC decoding condition. Due to the non-convexity of the optimization problem, we reformulate the original problem into an equivalent optimization problem and then provide a successive convex approximation based iterative algorithm for solving it. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed optimization scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

Secure Transmission via Joint Precoding Optimization for Downlink MISO NOMA

Nan Zhao, Dongdong Li, Mingqian Liu +4 more

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a prospective technology for radio resource constrained future mobile networks. However, NOMA users far from a base station (BS) tend to be more susceptible to eavesdropping because they are allocated more transmit power. In this paper, we aim to jointly optimize the precoding vectors at the BS to ensure the legitimate security in a downlink multiple-input single-output (MISO) NOMA network. When the eavesdropping channel state information (CSI) is available at the BS, we can maximize the sum secrecy rate by joint precoding optimization. Owing to its non-convexity, the problem is converted into a convex one, which is solved by a second-order-cone-programming-based iterative algorithm. When the CSI of the eavesdropping channel is not available, we first consider the case that the secure user is not the farthest from the BS, and the transmit power of the farther users is maximized via joint precoding optimization to guarantee its security. Then, we consider the case when the farthest user from the BS requires secure transmission, and the modified successive interference cancellation order and joint precoding optimization can be adopted to ensure its security. A similar method can be exploited to solve the two non-convex problems when the CSI is unknown. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed schemes can improve the security performance for MISO NOMA systems effectively, with and without eavesdropping CSI.

Robust Secure Transmission Design for RIS-Aided MISO-NOMA System with Hardware Impairments and Imperfect CSI

Chenyan Xiao, Fei Du, Dacai Wei +2 more

Hardware impairments (HWI) and the channel state information (CSI) estimation errors inevitably degrade the security performance of the communication system. In this work, we explore a robust beamforming solution for a reconfigurable intelligence surface (RIS)-assisted multiple-input single-output (MISO) multi-user secure network under HWI and imperfect CSI. Artificial noise (AN) is designed to jam eavesdroppers while non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is employed to suppress the interference between legitimate users. Aimed at maximizing secrecy sum rate, the active beamforming with AN at the BS and the passive beamforming at the RIS are jointly optimized. The nonconvex optimization problem is handled using the semi-definite relaxation (SDR), where the eavesdropper's channel uncertainty is tackled by the S-procedure. Then the multi-variable coupling problem is decomposed into two sub-problems and three blocks of variables are alternately optimized using the block coordinate descent (BCD) method. The results suggest that the developed scheme outperforms the benchmark ones in terms of security and resistance to HWI.
