Scientific Experiments Promote Objective Realism——Philosophical Studies on "Schrdinger's Cat Paradox"

Hongfang Li

Schrdinger's cat paradox is superficial look like a philosophical problem in quantum mechanics, actually involves some debates of the basic philosophical problems in the studies of philosophy of science, such as subjectivism vs.objectivism, realism vs.anti-realism.In the recent years, the progress in the studies of Schrdinger's cat paradox have made the cat entanglement state and its decoherence effect become no longer debatable instead observable behavior of physical world, which prompts the studies of basic philosophical problems involved quantum theory among different philosophical school.

The progress of Schrdinger's cat states in the fields of quantum mechanics and scientific philosophy are summarized.Schrdinger's cat states are relevant to the fundamental problems of quantum mechanics —completeness problems of quantum mechanics, they have immense effects to the development of physics and philosophy. The study of Schrdinger's cat can help us to understand the nature of quantum mechanics.

Operational Indefiniteness in Schrödinger's Cat: Ignorance and Coherence

Atsushi Okamoto

In this paper, we reconsider the Schrödinger’s cat problem from the viewpoint of operational indefiniteness. Using simple analogies such as a tossed coin, we distinguish between (i) situations in which a system has not yet reached a stabilized state and (ii) situations in which the state has already become physically distinguishable while remaining unknown to an external observer. From this perspective, the absence of external observation does not necessarily imply the persistence of coherent superposition. We argue that physical amplification processes associated with outcome propagation may stabilize distinguishable structures long before explicit observation occurs. Consequently, “being unobserved” and “remaining coherent” should not be regarded as equivalent concepts. The analysis suggests that indefiniteness should be discussed not solely in terms of observation, but also in relation to operational accessibility and the physical stabilization of distinguishable states. This viewpoint provides a conceptually clearer separation between ignorance and coherence in discussions of the Schrödinger’s cat problem.
