Abstract

We experimentally study spontaneous four wave mixing in micro-ring resonator on an InP membrane in a continuous regime. The generation rate of single photons from spontaneous four wave mixing is limited by the reduction in loaded Q-factor of the micro-ring resonators at higher power.

InP membrane micro-ring resonator for generating heralded single photons

Abstract In this paper, we experimentally verify the antibunching properties of multiple single photons located at distinct optical modes in a quantum frequency comb generated by cavity-enhanced spontaneous four-wave mixing in an InP membrane micro-ring resonator. The experimentally measured single photon conditional self-correlation parameter g H 2 0 = 0.08 ± 0.008 , well below the classical regime (0.5) with the corresponding detector corrected Klyshko efficiency η k of 3%–4.2%.

Entangled photon pair generation from an InP membrane micro-ring resonator

Rakesh Ranjan Kumar, Marina Raevskaia, Vadim Pogoretskii +2 more

We performed quantum interference measurements using photon pairs generated via cavity enhanced spontaneous four-wave mixing in an indium phosphide membrane micro-ring resonator which was optically pumped by a continuous-wave laser. The internal generation rate was estimated to be as high as 70 kHz at a coupled input power of 0.022 mW, and a two-photon quantum interference raw visibility of 78.4 ± 2% was observed.

Photon Pair Generation in an Amorphous Silicon Micro-ring Resonator

Elizabeth Hemsley, Damien Bonneau, Gary F. Sinclair +12 more

The high Kerr coefficient of amorphous silicon makes it a promising material for generating photons on chip via spontaneous four wave mixing (SFWM), for applications in quantum photonics. Previous work shows high photon generation rates in a-Si waveguides, [1], and here we expand this study to investigate micro-ring resonator photon sources, which have a small footprint and can produce photons with high spectral purity, ideal for quantum interference. We compare SFWM generation rates in an a-Si micro-ring resonator to a straight waveguide, in both continuous wave and pulsed pump regimes.

Spontaneous four-wave mixing in lossy microring resonators

Z. Vernon, John E. Sipe

We develop a general Hamiltonian treatment of spontaneous four-wave mixing in a microring resonator side-coupled to a channel waveguide. The effect of scattering losses in the ring is included, as well as parasitic nonlinear effects including self- and cross-phase modulation. A procedure for computing the output of such a system for arbitrary parameters and pump states is presented. For the limit of weak pumping an expression for the joint spectral intensity of generated photon pairs, as well as the singles-to-coincidences ratio, is derived.

Study on the Performance of a Single Photon Source Based on a Silicon Micro-ring Resonator

Fan Yang

Recently, many researchers focus on the integration of single photon sources on an optical chip toward the realization of large-scale quantum information processing.Identical single photons are required to obtain good interference between photons for quantum information processing, for which high "spectral purity" of single photons is required. An appealing scheme is employing the spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in a silicon micro-ring resonator (MRR) because it allows us to generate high-purity photons without external spectral filters. However, the purity value is limited to 0.92 due to the dispersion property of an MRR We have developed a new scheme to further increase the spectral purity from an MRR by manipulating the spectral phase distribution of the pump pulse.Via exploring several strategies on the spectral phase modulation, we found that the purity of single photon can be increased up to approximately 0.96 breaking the conventional limitation of 0.92 in a standard MRR.We further explore the experimental feasibility of the scheme toward future implementation.

Cooperative Spontaneous Four-wave Mixing in Single-channel and Dualchannel Sequences of Side-coupled Ring Resonators

Amideddin Mataji‐Kojouri, Massimo Borghi, Federico Andrea Sabattoli +9 more

Cooperative photon pair generation by Spontaneous Four-Wave Mixing (SFWM) process in singlechannel and dual-channel side-coupled ring resonator sequences is investigated. Our analysis shows that superlinear growth of generation rate with respect to the number of rings is possible even in presence of loss. Experimental evidence of super-SFWM is provided by comparing individual and collective generation rates obtained from a dual-channel ring resonator sequence. The results are in good agreement with theory and suggest that high photon pair generation rates can be achieved from integrated silicon ring resonator sequences without initiating nonlinear absorption processes.
