Electromagnetically induced-transparency-like spectrum in an add/drop interferometer

Kaiyang Wang, Changqiu Yu, Xuenan Zhang +3 more

We propose a single-ring-resonator-based add/drop interferometer and theoretically investigate the transmission characteristics. Due to coherent interference of two resonant pathways, an electromagnetically induced-transparency (EIT)-like spectrum is produced and the line shapes of the transmission spectra are tunable by controlling the coupling coefficients between the waveguide and ring resonator. We observe the EIT-like behavior in a fiber system which agrees well with the theoretical analysis. The proposed configuration has potential applications in tunable delay lines.

We experimentally demonstrated that the characteristics of the coherent interaction between two waveguide-coupled resonators can be drastically tuned by changing the propagation phase in the waveguide. In particular, the transmission line shape can be tuned between an electromagnetically induced transparency like optical resonance and a flat-top reflection filter.

Optical signal processing using silicon resonance and slow-light structures

Linjie Zhou, Jianping Chen, Xiaomeng Sun +2 more

We present our recent work on silicon resonance and slow-light based devices for optical signal processing. Waveguide self-coupling and mutual coupling are used to tailor the waveguide spectral and dispersion characteristics. With selfcoupling, optical resonances are generated with unique transmission performances. Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like effect appears in cascaded self-coupled waveguides. With mutual coupling between ridge and slot waveguides, group velocity experiences a big jump and optical signal can be delayed for a large range with low distortion by using thermo-optic tuning.
