Enhancing spectral sensitivity and scalability of superconducting nanowire photon detectors: mid-infrared characterization and near-infrared integration

Adan Azem, D. Morozov, Daniel Kuznesof +6 more

We present enhancements in the spectral sensitivity and scalability of superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors based on U-shaped NbTiN nanowires. Designed on a silicon-on-insulator photonic platform, our detectors exhibit near-unity internal detection efficiency under flood illumination across wavelengths from 1550nm to 3502nm. Additionally, we demonstrate arrays of waveguide-integrated superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors optimized for operation at 1550nm. Cryogenic light coupling to the arrays is achieved through a photonic wire bonding technique, enabling low-loss coupling and high-density integration, thereby facilitating the scaling of detector counts per cryostat for near-infrared applications.

Modelling Waveguide-Integrated Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors at Short-Wave Infrared

Benjamin Slater, Mack Johnson, Lawrence M. Rosenfeld +3 more

We report on the first integrated superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) that are optimised for short-wave infrared (SWIR) photons at 2.1μm. The SNSPDs presented in this work are one of the building blocks of quantum information processing with silicon, beyond infrared.

A Silicon Shallow-Ridge Waveguide Integrated Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detector Towards Quantum Photonic Circuits*

Lingjie Yu, Heqing Wang, Hao Li +4 more

A silicon shallow-ridge waveguide integrated superconducting nanowire single photon detector is designed and fabricated. At the bias current of 11.6 μA, 4% on-chip detection efficiency near 1550 nm wavelength is achieved with the dark count rate of 3 Hz and a timing jitter of 75 ps. This device shows the potential application in the integration of superconducting nanowire single photon detectors with a complex quantum photonic circuit.
