Abstract

We calculated the conformal anomaly number of the Blume-Capel quantum chain via finite-size corrections to the ground-state energy. In addition we compute, at the tricritical point, the lowest excitations of the spectrum to be compared with the theoretical description in terms of the irreducible representations of the corresponding Virasoro Algebra.Several boundary conditions are analyzed. In particular, surface exponents are obtained by usinq.free boundary conditions.

The authors calculated the conformal anomaly number of the Blume-Capel quantum chain via finite-size corrections to the ground-state energy. The Ashkin-Teller quantum chain and conformal invariance

G von Gehlen, V. Rittenberg

The authors study the finite-size effects for the fourth-state one-dimensional quantum chain introduced by Kohmoto et al. (1981) using different boundary conditions. From the corrections to the ground-state energy for periodic boundary conditions they verify that the central charge of the Virasoro algebra is equal to one in the whole domain of criticality. Their numerical study suggests a new relation between the corrections to the ground-state energy with free boundary conditions and with periodic boundary conditions. Various critical exponents including the surface ones and those corresponding to the para-fermions are determined.

Finite-size scaling and universality in the spectrum of the quantum ising chain. I. Periodic and antiperiodic boundary condition

Malte Henkel

The spectrum of the quantum Ising chain is studied in the finite-size scaling limit for periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions. The finite-size corrections are computed for all energy gaps. The results of the model are used to test the Privman-Fisher universality hypothesis and conformal theory. At the critical point, it is shown how to build the spectrum from the irreducible representations of the Virasoro algebra. In addition, the author finds evidence for an unsuspected symmetry for systems both non-critical and of finite size.

The spectra of quantum chains with free boundary conditions and Virasoro algebras

G von Gehlen, V. Rittenberg

At the critical point the spectra of quantum chains with periodic and twisted boundary conditions are described by irreducible representations of two Virasoro algebras with the same central charge. The authors show that in the case of free boundary conditions, the spectra can be understood in terms of irreducible representations of a single Virasoro algebra. For the Ising and the three-state Potts models, the corresponding irreducible representations are identified.

Superconformal invariance in the Ashkin-Teller quantum chain with free boundary conditions

G von Gehlen, V. Rittenberg

The finite-size limit of the lower part of the spectrum of the Ashkin-Teller chain with free boundary conditions is studied numerically and interpreted from the point of view of conformal invariance. Several irreducible representations of the Virasoro algebra with the central charge c=1 are identified. For two special values of the coupling constant, higher degeneracies occur and the whole spectrum can be understood in terms of a few irreducible representations of the N=2 superconformal algebra.

Operator content of the three-state Potts quantum chain

G von Gehlen, V. Rittenberg

The authors compute the lowest excitations of the spectra of the three-state Potts quantum chain with periodic and twisted boundary conditions. These spectra can be understood in terms of eighteen irreducible representations of the Virasoro algebra with c=4/5.
