Using domain walls to benchmark fast quantum anneals

Shushmi Chowdhury, Asa Hopkins, Nick Chancellor +1 more

We consider the distribution of domain walls arising in ground states of frustrated 1-dimensional Ising spin chains with anti-parallel boundary spins. For ideal chains, a sine-squared particle-in-a-box distribution of domain walls is expected in the quantum setting, and a uniform distribution expected classically. However, for chains with random imperfections, prior work [Chancellor et al., npj Quantum Inf. 8, 73, 2022] found that the distribution in a physical implementation corresponded to neither. Instead, the domain wall distribution forms a U-shaped profile arising from a classical model with random fields, where the combination of averaging over these fields and thermal averaging produces the characteristic U-shape. With D-Wave's newer fast anneal feature, we access anneal times shorter than the coherence time and observe the expected coherent quantum behavior in the form of a sine-squared distribution. For the shortest available anneal time, the dynamics have not yet reached the sine-squared shape and instead display a different U-shape in the middle of the chains. This motivates using the extent of the domain wall distribution tail in this regime as a platform independent metric that provides a signature of both coherence time and noise levels.

Correlation functions in the XXO Heisenberg chain and their relations with spectral shapes

Filippo Colomo, Anatoli G. Izergin, V. Tognetti

The spectral shape of one-dimensional systems (describing for instance the behaviour of Frenkel excitons) is approached through the exactly solvable model of the XXO Heisenberg quantum spin chain in a transverse magnetic field. Some results for finite size chains concerning 2N-point correlators are presented in detail. In particular, the finite lattice, finite temperature 2-point correlators are explicitly worked out. Moreover, results in closed form are given for 2N-point correlators in the most general situation (finite lattice and thermodynamic limit, finite temperature, finite space and/or time separations). Their relations with frequency moments of the spectral shape are pointed out and the connection with moment expansion through continued fraction representation is given.

Maximal qubit violation of n -local inequalities in a quantum network

Amit Kundu, Mostak Kamal Molla, Indrani Chattopadhyay +1 more

Source-independent quantum networks are considered as a natural generalization to the Bell scenario where we investigate the nonlocal properties of quantum states distributed and measured in a network. Considering the simplest network of entanglement swapping, recently Gisin et al. [Phys. Rev. A 96, 020304(R) (2017)] and Andreoli [New. J. Phys. 19, 113020 (2017)] independently provided a systematic characterization of the set of quantum states leading to violation of the so-called bilocality inequality. In this work, we consider the complexities in quantum networks with an arbitrary number of parties distributed in chain-shaped and star-shaped networks. We derive the maximal violation of the ``$n$-local'' inequality that can be achieved by arbitrary two-qubit states for such chain- and star-shaped networks. This would further provide a deeper understanding of quantum correlations in complex structures.
