Quantum fluctuations inside a microcavity with a pair of quantum wells: linear regime

Abstract

Quantum fluctuations of a system formed by two quantum wells inside a microcavity are investigated. The noise spectrum and the autocorrelation function are analyzed, and analytical expressions are derived. It is shown here that the noises are equally balanced over direct and indirect exciton thermal baths. The double quantum well system induces more fluctuations compared to the system formed by a single quantum well inside a microcavity. Unlike the latter system, the autocorrelation function of the cavity depends on the exciton thermal bath populations. It turns out that the photon detection probability is affected by coupling with the indirect exciton thermal bath.

Quantum Noise and Squeezed Light by Dipolaritons in the Nonlinear Regime

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

Abstract The quantum noise and the squeezing effect, in the transmitted light, by a dipolariton system formed by a double quantum wells microcavity in the strong coupling regime are investigated. It is shown that the indirect exciton nonlinearity generates stronger squeezing than the direct exciton nonlinearity, nevertheless produces very high fluctuations for some particular detunings and nonlinearities. The system shows a considerable sensitivity to the thermal excitations where the coupling to the direct and indirect excitonic thermal baths progressively destroys the nonclassical effect. Despite that, indirect exciton squeezing manifests a higher resistance against the thermal bath temperature. As a result, the emission field is strongly governed by the indirect excitons, varying between robust squeezing and excess noise.

Quantum fluctuations in a system of exciton polaritons in a semiconductor microcavity

Sevak Demirchyan, Timur A. Khudaiberganov, Igor Yu. Chestnov +1 more

This paper analyzes how quantum fluctuations affect the properties of exciton polaritons in a sample located in a planar semiconductor microcavity. The analysis takes into account the nonlinear interaction between the excitons, even in the presence of a thermal reservoir. Exact solutions are obtained for the generalized Glauber P function in the adiabatic limit. Giant exciton bunching is predicted. It is found that the presence of quantum noise destabilizes a homogeneous solution that belongs to the lower bistability branch.

Perfect squeezing of terahertz light by two quantum wells using a squeezed vacuum reservoir

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

The nonclassical properties of a microcavity confining two quantum wells irradiated by a coherent light source and interacting with a squeezed vacuum reservoir are investigated. By deriving analytical expressions of the intensity power spectrum, the squeezing spectrum, and the second-order correlation function of the output field, we show that the proposed scheme generates perfect squeezing. The obtained results are quite different from the single-quantum-well cavity system where, under the same conditions, squeezing does not exceed 50%, and the transmitted light is bunched. It turns out that the presence of indirect excitons in the cavity strongly modifies the quantum dynamics of the system.

Quantum fluctuation and nonlinear properties of exciton polaritons in semiconductor microcavities

Sevak Demirchyan, Timur A. Khudaiberganov, Igor Yu. Chestnov +2 more

The impact of quantum fluctuations on the properties of quantum well excitons excited inside 0D semiconductor microcavity possessing strong light confinement is analysed. The analysis takes into account the exciton-exciton repulsion and the presence of a reservoir. Analytical solutions are obtained for the generalized Glauber P-function of the system in the adiabatic limit. Destabilization of the homogeneous nonlinear solution belonging to the lower bistability branch in the presence of quantum noise is predicted.

Nonlinear dynamics in a dipolariton cavity with a squeezed vacuum

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

Dipolaritons are quasiparticles formed in double quantum wells’ microcavities driven by a coherent field. Here, we investigate the correlations and the quantum fluctuations in the light emitted by a dipolariton cavity pumped by a laser. By studying the noise spectrum in the strong and weak coupling regimes, we show that the squeezing generated by the direct and indirect excitonic nonlinearities is strongly enhanced by coupling the system to a squeezed vacuum. As a consequence, this coupling transforms the statistical light propriety from coherent to highly squeezed states, depending on the squeeze parameter strength. Furthermore, the squeezed reservoir stabilizes the nonclassical effect even with the high fluctuations caused by indirect exciton nonlinearity. It turns out that the combination of excitonic nonlinearities and squeezed vacuum is a good solution for producing stable and strong squeezing.

Phonon-induced interactions and entanglement formation between two microcavity modes mediated by two semiconductor quantum dots

Jitendra K. Verma, Harmanpreet Singh, Pradyumna K. Pathak +1 more

Using a polaron master equation approach, we investigate the cooperative two-photon resonance behavior between two modes of a field inside a semiconductor microcavity containing two quantum dots. The cooperative two-mode two-photon resonance occurs when two off-resonant quantum dots, initially prepared in exciton states, emit one photon in each cavity mode and deexcite simultaneously. Using this two-photon two-mode interaction, we demonstrate how to generate an entangled state of two qutrits (tripartite unit of quantum information). The bases for the qutrits are formed by the states of the cavity modes containing zero, one, and two photons. We also study the effect of exciton-phonon coupling on the entanglement and the probability of generating two-qutrit states, and explore the role of the phonon bath temperature.
