Abstract

In this paper, we study the realization of a multi-contact switch using the double-dressing regularity of probe, fluorescence, and six-wave mixing signals in a five-level 85Rb atomic system. For the first time, we compare the dressing regularity of Rydberg states by observing electromagnetically induced transparency and signals. With the scanning probe and dressing fields, both large and small line shifts in signals are observed. The small line shifts are induced by double-dressed line shifts. Also, the big line shifts result from the Rydberg dressing. In addition, with an increase in the principal quantum number n of the Rydberg state, all the signals become weaker, while the line shifts of the signals become enhanced. Using the regularity in line shifts of the signals and an acoustic optical modulator to modulate the frequency detuning, we can realize a multi-contact switch action and fast conversion between different contacts.

Controlling correlations in the Rydberg-dressing six-wave mixing process

Zhaoyang Zhang, Danmeng Ma, Jun-Feng Liu +6 more

Abstract We report the experimental observation of intensity noise correlation between six-wave mixing (SWM), fluorescence and probe transmission signal in a coherently prepared Rydberg atomic ensemble. With the assistance of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) technique, the Rydberg SWM is generated with high efficiency. Then the correlation between the probe transmission and SWM, the anti-correlation between the probe and fluorescence, and the anti-correlation between SWM and fluorescence occur, with these being caused by the enhanced dispersion and nonlinearity in the Rydberg-EIT medium. Such intensity correlation can be effectively controlled by the strong Rydberg-dressing effect. This investigation can potentially contribute to the further study of multi-field quantum correlations and anti-correlations via atomic spin coherence.

Polarized dressing suppression and enhancement involving Rydberg in a thermal vapor cell

Junling Che, Zhaoyang Zhang, Changbiao Li +4 more

In this letter, we show polarized dressing suppression and enhancement of six-wave mixing involving Rydberg in a multi-Zeeman-level atomic system. By scanning the frequency detuning of the dressing field, we observe the suppression and enhancement of Rydberg six-wave mixing with different polarization of the probe field in thermal vapors. Since different polarization states of the dressing field can select different transitions among multi-Zeeman levels, the polarization dependence of Rydberg dressing is investigated for the first time. Theoretical calculations are given and are in good agreement with the experimental results.

Multidressing interaction of four-wave mixing image in three-level atomic system

Suling Sang, Huaibin Zheng, Zhiguo Wang +5 more

We demonstrate different dressed processes of four-wave mixing (FWM), as changing the powers of the probe, pump, and dressing fields, respectively, in ladder-type three-level system. It is demonstrated that scanning detuning of the dressing field can lead to the direct detection of the dressing effects and the interaction between the dressing fields, compared with scanning that of the probe field. Moreover, by respectively controlling the powers of the dressing, pump, and probe fields, the enhancement and suppression of FWM signals can be switched sensitively. Meanwhile, the spatial splitting in y direction of FWM signal due to the cross-phase modulation and electromagnetically induced gratings is observed, respectively. Such nonlinear signal with switchable enhancement has potential applications in optical switching, optical communication, and quantum information processing.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and fluorescence in blockaded Rydberg atomic system

Cheng Li, Huaibin Zheng, Zhaoyang Zhang +4 more

We investigate the interaction between dark states and Rydberg excitation blockade by using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), fluorescence, and four-wave mixing (FWM) signals both theoretically and experimentally. By scanning the frequency detunings of the probe and dressing fields, respectively, we first observe these signals (three coexisting EIT windows, two fluorescence signals, and two FWM signals) under Rydberg excitation blockade. Next, frequency detuning dependences of these signals are obtained, in which the modulated results are well explained by introducing the dressing effects (leading to the dark states) with the corrected factor of the Rydberg excitation blockade. In addition, the variations by changing the principal quantum number n of Rydberg state shown some interesting phenomena resulting from Rydberg blockade are observed. The unique nature of such blockaded signals can have potential application in the demonstration of quantum computing.

Comparison of Two Two-Photon Dressed Rules in Multi-Wave Mixing

Jia Sun, Peiying Li, Gaoping Huang +5 more

For the first time, we report a novel two-photon dressed rule in a five-level85Rb atomic system. In comparison with a traditional two-photon dressed rule where the signals move with probe field frequency detuning changing, the novel one indicates that the signals do not move with coupling field frequency detuning changing. The finding is verified by the experimentally detected transmitted probe, multi-wave mixing, and fluorescence signals. We also find that the fluorescence signals show Autler-Townes splitting, which are observed experimentally and explained theoretically. By scanning one coupling field frequency detuning, variation of the dressing strength of another coupling field is revealed. Finally, we demonstrate that the alternation can be phase controlled if one of the incident beams deviates an angle (i.e., change from a normal state to an abnormal state).

Rydberg six-wave mixing process

Junling Che, Jiaqi Ma, Huaibin Zheng +4 more

We experimentally and theoretically investigate the Rydberg six-wave mixing (SWM) process in 85 Rb atomic vapor. Through comparing the center frequency positions of resonant Rydberg SWM signals with different atomic densities, atomic levels induced by van der Waals interaction are observed. Meanwhile, such SWM process which is sensitive to blockade can be modulated by the self-dressing effect and/or external dressing effect. In addition, the Rydberg eight-wave mixing process can be obtained if the power of the external dressing field is low. Such blockaded multi-wave mixing process has potential applications in multi-channel quantum information.
