Optimal detuning and gate time for strongly driven single-qubit gates beyond the rotating-wave approximation

Alejandro D. Bendersky, Sergio S. Gomez, Rodolfo H. Romero

Single-qubit quantum gates are implemented as the time-controlled unitary evolution of a two-level system under harmonic driving. The rotating-wave approximation (RWA) provides closed-form gate parameters for weak coupling. Larger amplitudes, desirable to speed up the dynamics, make the RWA-designed gates inaccurate because of the neglected counter-rotating term, which also shifts the resonance (Bloch-Siegert shift). Here we study theoretically the infidelity of gates beyond the RWA, using the effective Magnus-Taylor Hamiltonian through second order in the inverse of the driving frequency. By detuning the driving frequency by an amplitude-dependent shift of Bloch-Siegert type and rescaling the operation time, the RWA gate conditions are recovered with corrected parameters. Numerical solutions of the Schrodinger equation show that these corrections lower the gate infidelity by several orders of magnitude, extending the range of usable amplitudes

Controlling entanglement of two qubits by quantum-jump-based feedback beyond rotating-wave approximation

Qing Yang, Hui Liu, Xiu-Lan Zhen +2 more

The entanglement dynamics of two identical atoms coupled to a single-mode cavity is considered. Based on the reduced non-perturbative quantum master equation method, the entanglement evolution of the two atoms with spontaneous emission under the quantum-jump-based feedback control is investigated beyond the conventional rotating-wave approximation (RWA). The research of entanglement evolution beyond RWA is a significant problem because of its importance to the field of strong coupling. The result of numerical simulations shows that an appropriate feedback control can prolong the entanglement time and increase the entanglement amplitude. The effect of synchronous control on two atoms is superior to that of one control.

Entanglement Evolution of a Two-Qubit System beyond Rotating-Wave Approximation

Yang Qing, Yang Ming, Cao Zhuo-Liang

Two noninteracting qubits, initially entangled in Bell states, are coupled to a one-mode cavity and evolve under its influence. The entanglement evolution of the two qubits is investigated beyond the rotating-wave approximation. It is shown that the counter-rotating wave terms have a great influence on the disentanglement behavior.
