International Conference on Quantum Science and Applications (ICQSA-2016)

Abdullah Algin, Md Sadik Hassan Arik, Alexandre M. Gavrilik

This special volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series is dedicated to the proceedings of "International Conference on Quantum Science and Applications (ICQSA-2016)". The conference was organized by the Centre for Quantum Research and Applications at Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey. It was held in Eskisehir Osmangazi University Congress and Culture Centre during May 25-27, 2016 http://icqsa2016.ogu.edu.tr . It gathered actively 143 participants from different disciplines in natural and applied sciences coming from 16 different countries from all over the word. It was the first international conference in its content on the scientific research fields of quantum science and applications in Turkey. It also consisted of 12 plenary lectures and 119 contributed oral presentations covering interdisciplinary fields of research. The ICQSA-2016 conference focused on recent modern theoretical and experimental developments of quantum science in multi-disciplinary aspects of areas of mathematics, physics, statistics, chemistry, biology, computer science, electronics, informatics, medicine, education, etc. It served as an interaction platform for students, researchers, public, and private sector delegates for sharing new scientific and technological ideas on quantum applications in science and technology. The topics of the conference were: Quantum theory and quantum computing, quantum information theory and its applications, quantum statistics and its applications, quantum thermodynamics, quantum cryptography, classical and quantum symmetries, quantum calculus in science, engineering, medicine, education, etc., classical and quantum integrable systems, modeling and numerical methods in quantum systems, other modern mathematical methods in science and technology. Each of the submitted papers for this special volume of the proceedings of ICQSA-2016 has been reviewed by external referees. There are 36 accepted papers. Besides, it is worth pointing out that a great deal of interest shown by the participants of the ICQSA-2016 conference gives hope for the continuation of this meeting in the following years. The conference organization was sponsored by Eskisehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU), Eskisehir Tepebasi Municipality, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the project number 113F226. Other supporters of this organization were: Eskisehir Metropolitan Municipality, Eskisehir Governorship Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Pegem Academy Publishing Company. In addition, this special volume is supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the project number 113F226. Finally, our special thanks go to the Scientific and Organizing Committee members, to the sponsors and supporters, and to all of the participants. We hope this special volume will provide a useful resource for students, experts, and other participants, who are interested in interdisciplinary fields of quantum science and applications.

Mapping the Evolution of Quantum Computing in Education: A Bibliometric Analysis of Global Research Trends (2011–2025)

Thiyagu Kaliappan, Parinita Ratnaparkhi, Rakhi Raj +2 more

A revolutionary technology impacting the field of science, engineering, and education is Quantum computing. Quantum Computing in education is a discipline regarding its application to teaching and learning. The focus of the paper is a bibliometric analysis of academic literature on quantum computing in education to identify the intellectual structure thereof, patterns of growth, and future research perspectives. It is based on the Scopus database as a primary source of data. It covers 104 relevant publications published during 2011-2025. They were sorted and analyzed with the help of Bibliometrix package and its Biblioshiny interface in R to show the annual trends of publications. The findings indicate that quantum computing education is becoming of academic interest, and the number of research materials is growing rapidly since 2020. The highly interdisciplinary nature, with engineering, computer science, physics, and social sciences, respectively, playing the dominant role. There is a transition towards more basic quantum concepts into applied educational concepts, such as curriculum development, engineering education, teaching practices, and student learning. The paper has an important implication for researchers, teachers, and policy formulators. It also outlines the direction of future research that can be used to advance the sustainable development of quantum computing education.

Quantum Microbiology

Javeria Tanvir, Syeda Fatima Zehra, Muhammad Ali Syed

Quantum microbiology is s trailblazing field that integrates the principles of quantum mechanics with microbial investigation at a fundamental level, redefining our comprehension of microbial functions, at atomic and molecular levels. This arena primarily delves into the quantum phenomena, for instance, superposition, entanglement, and tunneling, that are fundamental to biological processes like enzyme catalysts within microbial cells, transfer of energy in photosynthesis, and electron transport in cellular respiration. By employing quantum physics notions in the domain of microbiology, this approach provides an innovative understanding of the adaptability, efficiency, and survival mechanisms of microbes. The significance of quantum microbiology extends beyond academic curiosity, unveiling possible merits in biotechnology, synthetic biology, and medical sciences. It opens up novel possibilities for designing microbial systems introduced by quantum physics that are more effective for various industries, healthcare, and environmental contexts. As this field advances, it pledges to challenge the existing biological paradigms and deepen our comprehension of the quantum universe. The fusion of quantum with microbiology not only broadens the scope of scientific inquiry but also holds the promise of innovative breakthroughs that could alter multiple dimensions of biotechnology and medicine. This chapter first presents a detailed explanation of quantum mechanics, then quantum biology, and finally explores the realm of quantum microbiology as a frontier of scientific inquiry with the potential to revolutionize our approach to microbial research and biotechnology.
