Abstract

We analyze the stability of the hyperbolic secant-shaped attractive Bose-Einstein condensate in the absence of external trapping potential. The appropriate theoretical model for the system is described by the nonlinear mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation with time varying two-body interaction effects. Using the variational method, the stability of the system is analyzed under the influence of time varying two-body interactions. Further we confirm that the stability of the attractive condensate increases by considering the hyperbolic secant-shape profile instead of Gaussian shape. The analytical results are compared with the numerical simulation by employing the split-step Crank-Nicholson method.

Stability of trapless Bose–Einstein condensates with two- and three-body interactions

We study the stabilization of a trapless Bose-Einstein condensate by analysing the mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation with attractive two- and three-body interactions through both analytical and numerical methods. Using the variational method we show that there is an enhancement of the condensate stability due to the inclusion of a three-body interaction in addition to the two-body interaction. We also study the stability of the condensates in the presence of the time-varying three-body interaction. Finally we confirm the stabilization of a trapless condensate from numerical simulation.

Dynamical stability of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates with temporal modulation of the s -wave scattering length

Subramaniyan Sabari, Chandroth P. Jisha, Kuppuswamy Porsezian +1 more

We study the stabilization properties of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate by temporal modulation of short-range two-body interaction. Through both analytical and numerical methods, we analyze the mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation with short-range two-body and long-range, nonlocal, dipolar interaction terms. We derive the equation of motion and effective potential of the dipolar condensate by variational method. We show that there is an enhancement of the condensate stability due to the inclusion of dipolar interaction in addition to the two-body contact interaction. We also show that the stability of the dipolar condensate increases in the presence of time varying two-body contact interaction; the temporal modification of the contact interaction prevents the collapse of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate. Finally we confirm the semi-analytical prediction through the direct numerical simulations of the governing equation.

Stabilization of repulsive trapless Bose–Einstein condensates

Tamilthiruvalluvar Ramakrishnan, Subramaniyan Sabari, Kuppuswamy Porsezian

Abstract So far, attractive , trapless Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) has been stabilized by considering the temporal modulation of the scattering length. However, there is no scope to stabilize the repulsive , trapless BEC even in the presence of the temporal modulation of the two-body interaction. However, in the present study, we stabilize the repulsive , trapless BEC by incorporating higher-order interaction. We also discuss the possibilities of the stabilization of repulsive, trapless BEC in the presence of time-varying higher-order interaction. Additionally, we verify our analytical findings by direct numerical simulation using the split-step Crank-Nicholson method.

Stability window of trapless polariton Bose-Einstein condensates

Subramaniyan Sabari, R. Kishor Kumar, R. Radha +1 more

We theoretically explore the possibility of stabilizing the trapless polariton Bose-Einstein condensates (pBECs). Exploiting the variational method, we solve the associated nonlinear, complex Gross-Pitaevskii equation and derive the equation of motion for the amplitude and width of the condensate. These variational results described by ordinary differential equations are rewritten to perform a linear stability analysis to generate a stability window in the repulsive domain. A set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations obtained through the variational approach are then solved by numerical simulations through the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method, which are further supported by the split-step Crank-Nicholson method, thereby setting the platform for stable pBECs. In particular, we generate a window containing system parameters in the ${g}_{1}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\text{eff}}$ space within which the system can admit stable condensates. The highlight of the results is that one observes beating effects in the real time evolution of the condensates with attractive interactions much similar to multicomponent BECs, and their periodicity can be varied by manipulating linear and nonlinear loss/gain terms. For repulsive condensates, one notices the stretching of the density.

Dynamics of Bose–Einstein Condensates Subject to the Pöschl–Teller Potential through Numerical and Variational Solutions of the Gross–Pitaevskii Equation

Lucas Carvalho Pereira, Valter Aragão do Nascimento

We present for the first time an approach about Bose-Einstein condensates made up of atoms with attractive interatomic interactions confined to the Pöschl-Teller hyperbolic potential. In this paper, we consider a Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a cigar-shaped, and it was modeled by the mean field equation known as the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. An analytical (variational method) and numerical (two-step Crank-Nicolson) approach is proposed to study the proposed model of interatomic interaction. The solutions of the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation obtained in this paper confirmed, from a theoretical point of view, the possibility of the Pöschl-Teller potential to confine Bose-Einstein condensates. The chemical potential as a function of the depth of the Pöschl-Teller potential showed a behavior very similar to the cases of Bose-Einstein condensates and superfluid Fermi gases in optical lattices and optical superlattices. The results presented in this paper can open the way for several applications in atomic and molecular physics, solid state physics, condensed matter physics, and material sciences.

Dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates under anharmonic trap

Hamid Al-Jibbouri

The dynamics of weakly interacting three-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs), trapped in external axially symmetric plus anharmonic distortion potential are studied. Within a variational approach and time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation, the coupled condensate width equations are derived. By modulating anharmonic distortion of the trapping potential, nonlinear features are studied numerically and illustrated analytically, such as mode coupling of oscillation modes, and resonances. Furthermore, the stability of attractive interaction BEC in both repulsive and attractive anharmonic distortion is examined. We demonstrate that a small repulsive and attractive anharmonic distortion is effective in reducing (extending) the condensate stability region since it decreases (increases) the critical number of atoms in the trapping potential.
