Abstract

Abstract So far, attractive , trapless Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) has been stabilized by considering the temporal modulation of the scattering length. However, there is no scope to stabilize the repulsive , trapless BEC even in the presence of the temporal modulation of the two-body interaction. However, in the present study, we stabilize the repulsive , trapless BEC by incorporating higher-order interaction. We also discuss the possibilities of the stabilization of repulsive, trapless BEC in the presence of time-varying higher-order interaction. Additionally, we verify our analytical findings by direct numerical simulation using the split-step Crank-Nicholson method.

Stabilization of trapless dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates by temporal modulation of the contact interaction

Subramaniyan Sabari, Bishwajyoti Dey

We study theoretically the stability of a trapless dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with temporal modulation of the short-range contact interaction. For this aim, through both analytical and numerical methods, we solve a Gross-Pitaevskii equation with both constant and oscillatory forms of the short-range contact interaction along with long-range, nonlocal, dipole-dipole interaction terms. By using the variational method, we discuss the stability of the trapless dipolar BEC with the presence and absence of both constant and oscillatory contact interactions. We show that the oscillatory contact interaction prevents the collapse of the trapless dipolar BEC. We confirm the analytical prediction through numerical simulations. We also study the collective excitations in the system induced by the effective potential due to the oscillating interaction.

Stability of trapless Bose–Einstein condensates with two- and three-body interactions

We study the stabilization of a trapless Bose-Einstein condensate by analysing the mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation with attractive two- and three-body interactions through both analytical and numerical methods. Using the variational method we show that there is an enhancement of the condensate stability due to the inclusion of a three-body interaction in addition to the two-body interaction. We also study the stability of the condensates in the presence of the time-varying three-body interaction. Finally we confirm the stabilization of a trapless condensate from numerical simulation.

Stability window of trapless polariton Bose-Einstein condensates

Subramaniyan Sabari, R. Kishor Kumar, R. Radha +1 more

We theoretically explore the possibility of stabilizing the trapless polariton Bose-Einstein condensates (pBECs). Exploiting the variational method, we solve the associated nonlinear, complex Gross-Pitaevskii equation and derive the equation of motion for the amplitude and width of the condensate. These variational results described by ordinary differential equations are rewritten to perform a linear stability analysis to generate a stability window in the repulsive domain. A set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations obtained through the variational approach are then solved by numerical simulations through the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method, which are further supported by the split-step Crank-Nicholson method, thereby setting the platform for stable pBECs. In particular, we generate a window containing system parameters in the ${g}_{1}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\text{eff}}$ space within which the system can admit stable condensates. The highlight of the results is that one observes beating effects in the real time evolution of the condensates with attractive interactions much similar to multicomponent BECs, and their periodicity can be varied by manipulating linear and nonlinear loss/gain terms. For repulsive condensates, one notices the stretching of the density.

Interplay between Binary and Three-Body Interactions and Enhancement of Stability in Trapless Dipolar Bose–Einstein Condensates

Subramaniyan Sabari, Kishor Kumar Ramavarmaraja, Ramaswamy Radha +1 more

We investigate the nonlocal Gross–Pitaevskii (GP) equation with long-range dipole-dipole and contact interactions (including binary and three-body collisions). We address the impact of the three-body interaction on stabilizing trapless dipolar Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs). It is found that the dipolar BECs exhibit stability not only for the usual combination of attractive binary and repulsive three-body interactions, but also for the case when these terms have opposite signs. The trapless stability of the dipolar BECs may be further enhanced by time-periodic modulation of the three-body interaction imposed by means of Feshbach resonance. The results are produced analytically using the variational approach and confirmed by numerical simulations.

Dynamical stability of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates with temporal modulation of the s -wave scattering length

Subramaniyan Sabari, Chandroth P. Jisha, Kuppuswamy Porsezian +1 more

We study the stabilization properties of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate by temporal modulation of short-range two-body interaction. Through both analytical and numerical methods, we analyze the mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation with short-range two-body and long-range, nonlocal, dipolar interaction terms. We derive the equation of motion and effective potential of the dipolar condensate by variational method. We show that there is an enhancement of the condensate stability due to the inclusion of dipolar interaction in addition to the two-body contact interaction. We also show that the stability of the dipolar condensate increases in the presence of time varying two-body contact interaction; the temporal modification of the contact interaction prevents the collapse of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate. Finally we confirm the semi-analytical prediction through the direct numerical simulations of the governing equation.

The stability condition and collective excitation of a trapped Bose–Einstein condensate with higher-order interactions

Wei Qi, Zhaoxin Liang, Zhang Zhi-dong

We take into account the higher-order corrections in two-body scattering interactions within a mean-field description, and investigate the stability conditions and collective excitations of a harmonically trapped Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC). Our results show that the presence of higher-order corrections causes drastic changes to the stability condition of a BEC. In particular, we predict that with the help of the higher-order interaction, a BEC can now collapse even for positive scattering lengths; whereas, a usually unstable BEC with a negative scattering length can be stabilized by positive higher-order effects. The low-lying collective excitations are significantly modified as well, compared to those without the higher-order corrections. The conditions for a possible experimental scenario are also proposed.
