Exact finite-temperature particle and energy densities for noninteracting Bose and Fermi gases in d -dimensional anisotropic harmonic traps

Xian Zhi Wang

A much simpler method is proposed for the evaluation of the exact finite-temperature particle and energy densities for noninteracting Bose and Fermi gases in d-dimensional anisotropic harmonic traps. For the Bose gas in the whole range of temperature, the exact results are obtained. For the Fermi gas with chemical potential less than the single-particle ground-state energy, the exact results are obtained.

Spectral equivalence of bosons and fermions in one-dimensional harmonic potentials

Michael Crescimanno, Adam Scott Landsberg

Recently, Schmidt and Schnack [Physica A 260, 479 (1998)], following earlier references, reiterate that the specific heat of N noninteracting bosons in a one-dimensional harmonic well equals that of N noninteracting fermions in the same potential. We show that this peculiar relationship between heat capacities results from a more dramatic equivalence between Bose and Fermi systems. Namely, we prove that the excitations of such Bose and Fermi systems are spectrally equivalent. Two complementary proofs of this equivalence are provided; one based on a combinatoric argument, the other from analysis of the underlying dynamical symmetry group.

Fermionization and bosonization of expanding one-dimensional anyonic fluids

Adolfo del Campo

The momentum distribution of an expanding cloud of one-dimensional hard-core anyons is studied by an exact numerical approach, and shown to become indistinguishable from that of a noninteracting spin-polarized Fermi gas for large enough times (dynamical fermionization). We also consider the expansion of one-dimensional anyons with strongly attractive short-range interactions suddenly released from a parabolic external potential, and find that the momentum distribution approaches that of its dual system, the ideal Bose gas (dynamical bosonization). For both processes the characteristic time scales are identified, and the effect of the initial confinement is analyzed comparing the dynamics associated with both harmonic and hard-wall traps.
