Quantum Technology is one of the most promising as well as challenging fields of the twentieth century that takes advantage of Quantum Mechanics properties, specially quantum entanglement and quantum superposition, for running useful applications as quantum computing and quantum cryptography among others. Our Campus, EETAC, has ICFO (Institut de Ciències Fotòniques) on its premises where a broad portfolio of studies is offered. These studies focus on the knowledgement of optical technologies with the objective of giving the students the opportunity to develop their skills. On the other hand, there is a subject called TIQ (Tecnologies d'Informació Quàntica) in the fourth year of Telecommunication Systems Degree where the basic quantum concepts are taught and also their applications. Taking into account the outstanding advantages of this technology this work aims to give an overview on the basics of quantum computing and quantum optics through theoric explanations, definitions and basic mathematical formulas with the objective of carrying out quantum experiments on the undergraduate level that help on the approach of the new generation of students to these new technologies and awake their interest on this field. Pricelists with the necessary elements for performing the experiments are also provided as well as a list of different providers in order to give an estimation on the cost that setting up this quantum optical laboratory would imply.

This article explores educational initiatives for teaching quantum technologies in schools and universities, highlighting their purposes, methodologies, and challenges. In order to bring students closer to the fundamental concepts of quantum technologies, several teaching programs adopt interactive activities and simulators, offering a practical and intuitive introduction to the subject. The need for qualified professionals in the area is growing, because of the advancement of quantum computing, a great demand for specialized labor is expected in the coming years. Industries in several sectors already recognize the potential of this technology, reinforcing the urgency of training professionals capable of developing and applying quantum solutions. An exploratory survey was conducted of institutions that have integrated SPINQ quantum computers, compact devices that are relatively more affordable than traditional quantum computers, which offer a practical and interactive experience. With them, students visualize theoretical concepts in a practical context, promoting greater understanding and interest in the field. However, the adoption of quantum computers in education faces substantial challenges. High costs, limited infrastructure and a lack of specialized teachers are the main barriers, especially in countries with lower investment in education. Thus, while quantum technologies show great educational potential, their implementation requires significant structural investments to become viable and effective.
Quantum computing is necessary to be described as a powerful tool is the new generation of computational power that works based on the principles of quantum mechanics, allowing the solving of problems that are intractable for classical computers. Due to the utilization of such phenomena as superposition, quantum entanglement and quantum interference, quantum computers are said to be able to solve problems in such areas as cryptography, artificial intelligence, optimization problems and material sciences, among others. This paper attempts to examine the basic concepts of quantum computing while focusing on their different aspects and their potential impacts. This study its experience and potential in its current form and in future applications through examples, illustrations, and theoretical discussion. Specific problems, including error correction, hardware scalability, and requirements for resources to address, make the paper a comprehensive overview of the quantum computing potential and weaknesses. Moving towards practical examples, the discussion covers all aspects of the book, providing readers with a holistic understanding of how quantum computing is going to change technological paradigms in the forthcoming decades.
Modern technologies and innovations are making an impact on all areas of our lives. Among them, quantum computing stands out as one of the most advanced and promising fields. While traditional computers have certain limitations, quantum computing offers the ability to reach new heights. Quantum computers can solve complex problems quickly and efficiently. The ability to perform multiple calculations simultaneously using qubits is increasing the demand for quantum technologies. Today's students have the opportunity to become future specialists who will develop and manage these technologies. For students studying English, mathematics, computer science, and physics, learning quantum computing technologies will not be difficult and will further enhance and deepen their understanding of these subjects. This article discusses the basic concepts of quantum computing, the opportunities it offers students in education and research, and its impact on society.
Quantum technology is one of the most promising and challenging fields in contemporary science. Quantum computing, quantum cryptography, and more generally quantum information technologies claim that they, in the short term, will change our paradigm of classical computing and communications. Concepts such as duality, superposition, entanglement, teleportation and many others seem to be closer to magic or science fiction than to everyday human experience. However, herein lies also the unlimited power of human thought, which mathematics and physics help us to go beyond our immediate experience of the world. This book, oriented toward undergraduate students pursuing Bachelor’s Degrees in Engineering, draws on the experience of the authors during nearly ten years of work in this field. The book consists of a comprehensive list of exercises with increasing degrees of dificulty. Additional material such as solved problems and a basic compilation of theory is also included in each chapter. The list of topics, which include among others, quantum computing, quantum teleportation, superdense coding, quantum processors or quantum communication protocols, intended for opening doors that will motivate students to continue delving into the field of quantum technologies, which has only just begun to be explored.
The development of experimental methods of quantum optics has led to the emergence and rapid growth of a new field - quantum communication and quantum computing. The Laboratory of Quantum Optical Technologies is working on solving key scientific problems in the field of quantum technologies: the creation of quantum cryptography and quantum communication systems, the physics of cold atoms and their interaction with light fields, integral photonics and quantum state engineering, new methods of quantum measurements and quantum tomography.
Scope and aims of this book Quantum optics is one of the liveliest fields in physics at present. While it has been a dominant research field for at least two decades, with much graduate activity, in the past few years it has started to impact the undergraduate curriculum. This book developed from courses we have taught to final year undergraduates and beginning graduate students at Imperial College London and City University of New York. There are plenty of good research monographs in this field, but we felt that there was a genuine need for a straightforward account for senior undergraduates and beginning postgraduates, which stresses basic concepts. This is a field which attracts the brightest students at present, in part because of the extraordinary progress in the field (e.g. the implementation of teleportation, quantum cryptography, Schrödinger cat states, Bell violations of local realism and the like). We hope that this book provides an accessible introduction to this exciting subject. Our aim was to write an elementary book on the essentials of quantum optics directed to an audience of upper-level undergraduates, assumed to have suffered through a course in quantum mechanics, and for first-or second-year graduate students interested in eventually pursuing research in this area. The material we introduce is not simple, and will be a challenge for undergraduates and beginning graduate students, but we have tried to use the most straightforward approaches. Nevertheless, there are parts of the text that the reader will find more challenging than others.
