Abstract

Abstract We theoretically investigate the optical-response properties of the four-mode quadratically coupled optomechanical system (OMS), in which two standard OMSs with quadratic coupling are coupled to each other via a common waveguide. In the presence of a strong control field applied to one cavity and a weak probe field applied to the other, we show that by suitably tuning the system parameters, there appears the normal mode splitting, optomechanically induced absorption, and double or triple electromagnetically induced transparency phenomena in the probe absorption spectrum. In particular, the explicit physical explanations for those fantastic phenomena are detailed discussed. Moreover, we also show that our proposal can be exploited to implement the optical switch as well as the slow and fast light effects.

Optical response properties of a hybrid electro-optomechanical system interacting with a qubit

Tarun Kumar, Surabhi Yadav, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee

We investigate the optical response of a hybrid electro-optomechanical system interacting with a qubit. Our experimentally feasible system explores tunable all-optical-switching, double-optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) and optomechanically induced absorption (OMIA). The proposed system is also shown to generate anomalous dispersion. Our theoretical results show that the system can switch between OMIT and OMIA by manipulating the relevant system parameters. The normal-mode-splitting (NMS) effect induced by the interactions between the sub-systems is discussed in detail and the effects of varying the interactions on the NMS are analysed. These rich optical properties of the probe field may provide a promising platform for controllable all-optical-switch and various other quantum photonic devices.

Multiple transparency in a multimode quadratic coupling optomechanical system with an ensemble of three-level atoms

Qing He, Fazal Badshah, Rafi Ud Din +3 more

We theoretically investigate a multimode quadratic coupling optomechanical system (OMS) assisted with N cold Λ-type three-level atoms. The coupling interaction between two mechanical membranes (MR1 and MR2) and the cavity is quadratic. The three-level atoms interact with an external controlling field and an internal cavity field. The optical cavity is driven by a strong coupling field and a weak probe field. In the resolved sideband regime, four transparency windows are obtained due to the atomic coherence and quadratic coupling in the absorption spectrum for the suitable choice of the controlling parameters. We analyze how to vary the number of the transparency window dips and to adjust their mutual spacing by changing the controlling parameters such as strength of the quadratic coupling between MR1 (MR2) and the cavity, the collective coupling strength between the atomic ensemble and the cavity field, the Rabi frequency associated with the coupling interaction between the controlling field and the three-level atom, power of the coupling field, different frequencies and decay rates of MR1 (MR2), decay rate of the cavity field, and the environmental temperature. Further, we also demonstrate the normal-mode splitting in the generated Stokes and anti-Stokes field in the OMS, where the changing collective coupling strength affects the splitting width of the output field at the Stokes (anti-Stokes) frequency.

Slow light in loop-coupled multimode optomechanical system

Bao-Hao Xie, Hua‐Jun Chen

We theoretically propose a loop-coupled multimode optomechanical system (OMS) with a single-mode cavity, a two-level system (TLS), and a mechanical resonator, which are coupled to each other. With controlled coupling parameters, the loop-coupled multimode OMS can flexibly transform into different OMSs (e.g. cavity OMSs, cavity quantum electrodynamic systems). By simultaneously driving the single-mode cavity using pump and probe fields, we investigate the coherent optical response and transmission spectra for the transparent window and absorption dips. Additionally, the transparent window and absorption dips that induce coherent light propagation were demonstrated. Our findings demonstrate that the transparent window and absorption dips can generate slow (fast) light, and that the control of coupling parameters can modulate optical fields in different OMSs. With further weaving of these coupling parameters, the loop-coupled multimode OMS can be a quantum information processing platform for chip-scale applications.

Controllable optical response in hybrid opto-electromechanical systems

Cheng Jiang, Yuan-Shun Cui, Hong-Xiang Liu +2 more

We theoretically investigate the analog of electromagnetically induced absorption and parametric amplification in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system consisting of an optical cavity and a microwave cavity coupled to a common mechanical resonator. When the two cavity modes are driven by two pump fields, a weak probe beam is applied to the optical cavity to monitor the optical response of the hybrid system, which can be effectively controlled by adjusting the frequency and power of the two pump fields. We find that the analog of electromagnetically induced absorption and parametric amplification can appear in the probe transmission spectrum when one cavity is pumped on its red sideband and another is pumped on its blue sideband. These phenomena can find potential applications in optical switching and signal amplification in the quantum information process.

Multiple electromagnetically induced transparency, slow and fast light in hybrid optomechanics

Muhammad Javed Akram, Fazal Ghafoor, Farhan Saif

We theoretically investigate the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) of a weak probe field in hybrid optomechanics with a single three-level ($Λ$-type) atomic system. We report that, in the presence of optomechanical coupling and two transition coupling parameters of three-level atom (TLA), there occurs three distinct multiple EIT windows in the probe absorption spectrum. Moreover, the switching of multiple windows into double and single EIT windows can be obtained by suitably tuning the system parameters. Furthermore, the probe transmission spectrum have been studied. Based on our analytical and numerical work, we explain the occurrence of slow and fast light (superluminal) regimes, and enhancement of superluminal behaviour in the probe field transmission. This work demonstrates great potential in multi-channel waveguide, fiber optics and classical communication networks, multi-channel quantum information processing, real quality imaging, cloaking devices and delay lines & optical buffers for telecommunication.

Bistable optical response of a three-cavity hybrid optomechanical system: effect of Kerr nonlinearity

Hamidreza Foroughi, Nader Daneshfar

In this study, we theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in hybrid triple-cavity optomechanical systems (OMSs) composed of three coupled cavities (two optical cavities and one optomechanical cavity) in the presence of semiconductor quantum dot molecules and a Kerr medium with a Kerr coefficient of χ when the optomechanical cavity is driven by a pump laser with frequency ωp and the amplitude Ep, which results in optical pressure on the movable mirror of the OMS. The dynamical equations of motion for this triple-cavity hybrid system in the steady state limit are solved using the Heisenberg-Langevin equations to achieve OB. We have demonstrated that it is possible to adjust both the width of the hysteresis loop and the switching threshold by controlling the Kerr coefficient . t is found that by properly tuning the physical parameters, the bistable thresholds of the system can be switched on and switched off, which is useful for designing and optimizing sensitive all-optical switching .
