Abstract

Abstract Quantum routers with a routing rate of much more than 0.5 are important for quantum networks. Here we provide a scheme to significantly improve quantum routing performance. The proposal extends a recent scheme proposed by Zhou et al 2013 ( Phys. Rev. Lett. 111 103604) by locating another atom in the input channel to generate an effective reflection potential. Our numerical results show that the routing capability from the input channel to another channel can be remarkably enhanced, and even in the presence of moderately low cavity loss, the maximum transfer rate from one channel to another can be more than 0.9. Moreover, we find that there exists an optimum waveguide length to achieve the maximum transfer rate. Our scheme could feasibly be implemented experimentally for quantum routing with a high transfer rate.

Single-photon quantum router based on asymmetric intercavity couplings

Jiyang Li, Xinlei Li, Guo-An Yan

Abstract As a special quantum node in a quantum network, the quantum router plays an important role in storing and transferring quantum information. In this paper, we propose a quantum router scheme based on asymmetric intercavity couplings and a three-level Λ-type atomic system. This scheme implements the quantum routing capability very well. It can perfectly transfer quantum information from one quantum channel to another. Compared with the previous quantum routing scheme, our proposed scheme can achieve the transfer rate of single photons from one quantum channel to another quantum channel reaching 100%, the high transfer rate is located in the almost quadrant regions with negative values of the two variables λ a and λ b , and their maximum values T u b + T d b = 1 emerge in the center point λ a = λ b = −1. Therefore, it is possibly feasible to efficiently enhance the routing capability of the single photons between two channels by adjusting the inter-resonator couplings, and the asymmetric intercavity coupling provides a new method for achieving high-fidelity quantum routers.

Designable single-photon quantum routings with atomic mirrors

Xingmin Li, L. F. Wei

Quantum routers are the necessary elements of the quantum information network, and thus their routing capabilities are particularly important. With the atomic mirrors robustly controlling the reflected or transmitted coefficient of the waveguide photon, we show that a two-level atom can be served as an ideal quantum router to redirect a single photon from the input waveguide into the output waveguides (OWGs) with designable probabilities, e.g., $100%$ for one OWG, $1/2$ to one of the two OWGs, and $1/3$ to one of the three OWGs, etc.. The influence of the atomic dissipations on the routing capability is also discussed.

Single-photon quantum router with multiple output ports

Wei-Bin Yan, Heng Fan

The routing capability is a requisite in quantum network. Although the quantum routing of signals has been investigated in various systems both in theory and experiment, the general form of quantum routing with many output terminals still needs to be explored. Here we propose a scheme to achieve the multi-channel quantum routing of the single photons in a waveguide-emitter system. The channels are composed by the waveguides and are connected by intermediate two-level emitters. By adjusting the intermediate emitters, the output channels of the input single photons can be controlled. This is demonstrated in the cases of one output channel, two output channels and the generic N output channels. The results show that the multi-channel quantum routing of single photons can be well achieved in the proposed system. This offers a scheme for the experimental realization of general quantum routing of single photons.

High-Efficiency Quantum Routing in a Multi-Cross-Shaped Waveguide

J. C. Huang, Jingwen Wang, Yao Wang +1 more

Efficiently routing the quantum signals between different channels is essential in a quantum multichannel network. We investigate the quantum routing in a multi-cross-shaped waveguide coupled to driven three-level systems. Numerical results show that the high routing capacity transferring from the input channel to the other channels can be explicitly enhanced by effective reflection potentials. The proposed system may be utilized as a scalable quantum device to control single-photon routing .

Nonreciprocal single-photon router in quantum networks

Guo-An Yan, Hua Lu

Abstract High-efficiency single-photon routing of photon signals between different quantum channels is of great importance for the quantum networks with the ability to coherently transfer quantum states between the desired sender and receiver nodes. We proposed an efficient scheme for realizing quantum routers via multiple semi-infinite coupled-resonator waveguides ( CRWs ) coupled to cavities nonreciprocally. Numerical results show that with the change of the phase difference value, the quantum routing function of multiple output ports can be realized, in the meantime, the information conversion rate can almost reach 100%. The optimal conditions for these phenomena are obtained by the time-reversal symmetry breaking the nonreciprocal of the single-photon transport. Moreover, we have also described a scalable scheme that can extend the router to an arbitrary number of outputs. Our results pave the way to design high-quality quantum devices based on breaking time-reversal symmetry waveguide-cavity systems.

Tunable single-photon quantum router

M. Ahumada, P. A. Orellana, Francisco Domínguez-Adame +1 more

We propose an efficient single-photon router comprising two resonator waveguide channels coupled by several sequential cavities with embedded three-level atoms. We show that the system can operate as a perfect four-way single-photon switch. We also demonstrate that an incident single photon propagating in one of the waveguides can be routed into one or the other output channels; such routing can be controlled by the external classical electromagnetic field driving the atoms. We argue that, under appropriate conditions, the efficiency of such routing can be close to 100% within a broad operational bandwidth, suggesting various applications in photonics.
