Abstract

We investigate a single-photon quantum router in quantum fluctuation of fields. The optomechanical system composed of a cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in an ultrahigh-finesse Fabry-Pérot cavity. We show how an analog of electromagnetically induced transparency in an optomechanical system can be used to produce a switch for a quantum fluctuation field using very low pumping field strength. The numerical results show that the output photon is completely different by turning the pump off and turning the pump on.We also show that the quantum noise sources are very small. This optomechanical system can serve as a single-photon quantum router.

A tunable single-photon multi-channel quantum router in a hybrid BEC-optomechanical system

Abstract A novel technique for generating a single-photon multi-channel quantum router in a hybrid BEC-optomechanical system is proposed. This system consists of a cigar-shaped Bose–Einstein condensate that is trapped inside a high-finesse Fabry–Pérot cavity with a moving end-mirror. Analytical solutions are given for the spectrum of the reflectance and transmittance of the output field. When the cavity is driven by a coupling laser and probe laser, we can produce a switch for the appropriate of the normalized frequency and the effective coupling strength. Furthermore, the effective coupling strength of the optical field with the condensate mode, the effective coupling strength of the optical field with the mirror, cavity decay and decay rates for the moving mirror are used to control the number of the single-photon quantum router. Finally, we also demonstrate the vacuum, and thermal noise can be insignificant for the single-photon router. We give a certain set of experimental parameters for observing these phenomena in the laboratory. The technique presented may have potential applications in quantum engineering and quantum information networks.

Optomechanical systems as single-photon routers

G. S. Agarwal, Sumei Huang

We theoretically demonstrate the possibility of using nanomechanical systems as single-photon routers. We show how electromagnetically induced transparency in cavity optomechanical systems can be used to produce a switch for a probe field in a single-photon Fock state using very low pumping powers of a few microwatts. We present estimates of vacuum and thermal noise and show that the optimal performance of the single-photon switch is deteriorated by only a few percent even at temperatures of the order of 20 mK.

Single Photon Router in the Optical Regime Based on a Cavity Optomechanical System With a Bose–Einstein Condensate

Bin Chen, Jinjin Li, Cheng Jiang +1 more

We propose a novel scheme of a single photon router based on a coupled Bose-Einstein condensate cavity system. The numerical results obtained show that by controlling the route of the probe photon using an appropriate pump beam, this coupled system can serve as a single photon router. Importantly, this router works well in the optical regime, instead of the microwave regime, and at an ultralow pump power. The scheme, proposed here, may have potential applications in optical signal processing, communication, and quantum information networks.

Tunable multi-outlet single photon quantum router in an optomechanical system

Qiong Wang, Wenjuan Li

Abstract An experimentally accessible tunable single-photon multi-channel quantum router is investigated in a system consisting of an optomechanics cavity coulomb coupling to a nano-mechanical resonator. The router can extract a single-photon from the coherent input signal directly modulate into three different output channels, and the output probability is all close to 1. More important, the two output signal frequencies can be selected by adjusting Coulomb coupling strength. We also demonstrate the vacuum and thermal noise will be insignificant for the optical performance of the single-photon router at temperature of the order of 20 mK. Our proposal may have paved a new avenue towards multi-channel router and quantum network.

Demonstration of a single-photon router with a cavity electromechanical system

Cheng Jiang, Bin Chen, Ka‐Di Zhu

We demonstrate theoretically a scheme for realizing a single-photon router in a cavity electromechanical system. When a weak probe field is tuned on resonance with the microwave cavity, we can use a strong control field to choose to what output port of this probe field is delivered, which is based on the analogue of electromagnetically induced transparency effect in this coupled system. Routing between the reflection output port and the transmission output port can be achieved by turning off and on the control field. The router proposed here opens a good perspective for its applications in photonic quantum information networks.
