Abstract

In the present work we have discussed the well known topic of simultaneous passing of photon through both the slit of Young double slit experiment. With the help of the example of Newton's sailor in the special theory of relativity we have shown that Feynman's statement in the quantum version of Young's double slit experiment regarding the simultaneous passage of a photon through both the slits simultaneously needs to be qualified.

Comprehensive Double Slit Experiments Showing That Light Is Photons

Hui Peng

Young’s double slit experiments have been descripted by wave theories, i.e., before and after passing through a double slit, the light is waves. To test the wave description, we extend the double slit experiments to the comprehensive double slit experiments by utilizing Shield, Metal tube, Blocker, Combination of Shield and Blocker with two triangle cuts, Photon-Chamber, and Lens. We propose both “Postulate on light: light is photons before and after passing through double slit” and “Postulate on lens: light behaves same before and after passing through lens”. Then, we show the novel phenomena of the comprehensive double slit experiments: (1) the light is photons, not waves, before and after passing through a double slit; (2) it is the photons that form both the non-interference patterns and interference patterns; (3) the non-interference patterns gradually evolve to the interference patterns in the same experiment. We refer to the novel phenomena as “PhotoWave phenomena” that are universal. The comprehensive double slit experiments provide the novel phenomena for developing theoretical model further to study: (1) the nature of the light; (2) the Feynman’s mystery of the double slit; (3) the wave-particle duality; (4) the wave theories of the light; (5) the quantum theory of matter. A complete explanation is demanded and should describe all the comprehensive double slit experiments consistently.

An analysis of Young’s double slit experiment in the light of Schrodinger’s cat

Abhijit Hazarika, L.K. Rajkhowa, Bibhas Kumar Dutta +3 more

Quantum interference is a challenging phenomenon in quantum optics. According to this principle of superposition of quantum mechanics, elementary particles such as photon can not only be in more than one place at a given time, but that an individual particle can cross its own trajectory and interfere with the direction of its path. Thomas Young devised the double slit experiment to prove that light consisted of waves. Analysis of the double slit experiment and the interference pattern indicates that each photon not only goes through both the slits simultaneously, but traverses every possible trajectory on the way to the target, not just in theory, but in fact. In the present work we have analysed the situation in terms of quantum superposition and Schrodinger cat states in quantum optics. The nature of photon in this analysis is examined

Young’s Single- and Double-Slit Experiments in Terms of the Feynman Amplitudes, Green’s Functions, and Photon Coordinate Wave Functions

Alexandr Petrovich Davydov, Denis M. Dolgushin, Tatiana Pavlovna Zlydneva +1 more

The Young’s single- and double-slit experiments are explained using six-component quantum and one-component quasi-classical photon wave functions in the coordinate representation, which are modeled by different mechanisms of photon diffraction on slits or simultaneous emission of two photons by (two) independent sources. This explanation is compared with the well-known statement about the interference of a particle with itself when passing through both slits simultaneously in the Young’s experiment on the basis of the postulated Feynman amplitudes. It is argued that these amplitudes cannot be wave functions, in the literal sense, describing some states of quantum particles. In all cases, under the assumption of the linear polarization of photons, a pronounced interference pattern has been obtained, which suggests that the coordinate wave function of a photon can explain the phenomena of the one- and two-photon interference. This conclusion, in turn, makes it possible to associate the coordinate wave function of a photon (two photons, in the entangled state) measured in some recent experiments with the quasi-classical wave function of a photon (two photons), although it does not take into account its (their) polarization properties.

Comprehensive-Double Slit Experiments Violating Wave Description and Trajectory Description ---Exploring Mystery of Double Slit Experiments

hui peng

Young’s double slit experiments, which represent the mystery of quantum mechanics (Feynman), have been described by optics, electromagnetic wave theory, quantum wave theory and Bohm’s trajectory theory. The double slit has the varieties of the applications. To test the description theories, we perform the comprehensive double slit experiments, which show that (1) before passing through the double slit/cross-double slit and before landing on the screen, the laser light behaves as particles, not as waves; (2) the experiments challenge the computer simulation of the trajectory theory at near field, however support the trajectory theory at far field. Those novel phenomena provide the comprehensive information for further theoretical development and applications.
