Young’s double slit experiments, which represent the mystery of quantum mechanics (Feynman), have been described by optics, electromagnetic wave theory, quantum wave theory and Bohm’s trajectory theory. The double slit has the varieties of the applications. To test the description theories, we perform the comprehensive double slit experiments, which show that (1) before passing through the double slit/cross-double slit and before landing on the screen, the laser light behaves as particles, not as waves; (2) the experiments challenge the computer simulation of the trajectory theory at near field, however support the trajectory theory at far field. Those novel phenomena provide the comprehensive information for further theoretical development and applications.

Young's double slit experiments representing the mystery of quantum mechanics have been described by wave theories and Bohm's trajectory theory. By placing shields/blockers near the detector /screen, the comprehensive double slit/cross-doble slit experiments show that the fringes are created independently and partially, which violates the wave description. In this article we show that by placing the shields contacting the slide of the double slit, the comprehensive experiments show: (1) the existence of trajectories/photons immediately next to the double slit; and (2) the trajectories cross, which violate the prediction of the computer simulation of Bohm's trajectory theory. The comprehensive double slit/cross-double slit experiments violate both wave theory and trajectory theory. The comprehensive double slit/cross-double slit experiments provide the comprehensive phenomena/data for developing theoretical model to study the mystery of double slit, complementarity principle, wave-particle duality, wave theory and trajectory theories.
Young's double slit experiments representing the mystery of quantum mechanics have been descripted by wave theories. To study the mystery, the double slit experiments were extended to the cross-double slit experiments. A description should explain all the double slit and cross-double slit experiments consistently. To test the wave description, the two postulates are proposed, which state that before passing through the double slit and before landing on the detector, photons behave as particles, but not as waves. To test the two postulates, the comprehensive double slit/cross-double slit experiments are proposed and performed. By placing shields and/or blockers near the detector/screen, the comprehensive double slit/cross-double slit experiments show that the fringes are created independently and partially, which discloses the particle nature of photons in the double slit/crossdouble slit experiments and violates the wave descriptions. The comprehensive double slit/cross-double slit experiments provide the comprehensive phenomena for developing theoretical model to study the mystery of double slit, complementarity principle, wave-particle duality, and wave theory of light.
Young’s double slit experiments, which represent the mystery of quantum mechanics, have been interpreted by quantum probability waves and by de Broglie-Bohm trajectories/pilot waves. Computer simulations of Bohm’s theory predict that (1) trajectories cannot cross, and (2) there is a triangle-shape area behind the double slit, in which there is no trajectory, i.e., no photons. In this article, we report the observations of novel comprehensive double slit experiments, which show that trajectories exist and cross in the triangular area. We show new phenomena that, in 2D cross double slit experiments and which way 2D cross double slit experiments, photons propagate along trajectories in the far field, and behave as particle and distribute as wave.
Abstract Young’s double slit experiments, which represent the mystery of quantum mechanics, have been interpreted by quantum probability waves and de Broglie-Bohm’s trajectory/pilot waves. To study in detail, the double slit experiments are extended to the cross double slit experiments. We argue that an interpretation must be able to explain all of the double slit and cross double slit experiments consistently. To test the interpretations, the comprehensive double slit experiments have been performed, which challenge both the wave interpretation and the trajectory interpretation. The cross double slit experiments and comprehensive double slit experiments provide a new tool for studying the mystery of double slit, wave-particle duality, complementarity principle, wave theory and trajectory theory. In this article, we review the cross double slit experiments and comprehensive double slit experiments, and report new experiments.
Young’s double slit experiments have been descripted by wave theories, i.e., before and after passing through a double slit, the light is waves. To test the wave description, we extend the double slit experiments to the comprehensive double slit experiments which are the regular double slit experiments with added either Shield, or Blocker, or Metal tube, or Photon-Chamber, or Lens. The comprehensive double slit experiments show the novel phenomena: (1) the light is particles, not waves, before and after passing through a double slit; (2) it is the particles that form both the non-interference patterns (near the double slit) and interference patterns (near/on the detector) in the same experiment; (3) the non-interference patterns gradually evolve to the interference patterns in the same experiment. We refer to the novel phenomena as “PhotoWave phenomena” which are universal. For studying the wave theory further, we show the Irregular-Double-Slit Experiments including the non-parallel-double slit, curve-double-slit, non-parallel-curve-double slit experiments. The comprehensive-double-slit and irregular-double-slit experiments provide the new phenomena for developing theoretical model to study: (1) the nature of the light; (2) the wave theories of the light; (3) the quantum theory of the light. A complete explanation should describe all of the comprehensive double slit and irregular-double-slit experiments consistently, which is a challenge. The experiments presented in this article: (1) show the new mystery of the double slit experiment in addition to Feynman’s mystery; (2) readily performe in the classe room; (3) inexpensive; (4) encourage and stimulate students interest in optics/physics, incorporate hands-on experiments, spark students’ curiosity.
