Abstract

We realized a novel polarization entangled photon- pair source at 1310 nm based on a birefringent titanium in- diffused waveguide integrated on periodically poled lithium ni- obate. Using an original setup, we characterized the quantum properties of the pairs by measuring two-photon interference patterns in both Hong-Ou-Mandel and Bell inequality configura- tions. We obtained interference net visibilities of 99%, which represent the best results ever reported for similar configura- tions.

We report the realization of a fiber coupled polarization entangled photon-pair source at 1310 nm based on a birefringent titanium in-diffused waveguide integrated on periodically poled lithium niobate. By taking advantage of an original setup, we characterized the quantum properties of the pairs by measuring two-photon interference in both Hong-Ou-Mandel and standard Bell inequality configurations. We obtained, for the two sets of measurements, interference net visibilities reaching nearly 100%, which represent the best results ever reported for similar waveguide-based configurations. These results prove the relevance of our approach as an enabling technology for long-distance quantum communication.

We report the realization of a fiber-coupled polarization entangled photon-pair source at 1310 nm based on a birefringent titanium in-diffused waveguide integrated into periodically poled lithium niobate. By making use of a dedicated and high-performance setup, we characterized the quantum properties of the pairs by measuring two-photon interference in both Hong–Ou–Mandel and standard Bell inequality configurations. For the two sets of measurements we obtained interference net visibilities reaching nearly 100%, which represent important and competitive results compared to those for the similar waveguide-based configurations already reported. Integrated optical source of polarization entangled photons at 1310 nm

Anthony Martin, V. Cristofori, P. Aboussouan +5 more

We report the realization of a new polarization entangled photon-pair source based on a titanium-indiffused waveguide integrated on periodically poled lithium niobate pumped by a CW laser at 655 nm. The paired photons are emitted at the telecom wavelength of 1310 nm within a bandwidth of 0.7 nm. The quantum properties of the pairs are measured using a two-photon coalescence experiment showing a visibility of 85%. The evaluated source brightness, on the order of 10(5) pairs s(-1)GHz(-1)mW(-1), associated with its compactness and reliability, demonstrates the source's high potential for long-distance quantum communication.

New time-bin entanglement scheme based on a type-II PPLN waveguide

Anthony Martin, Florian Kaiser, Aline Vernier +1 more

We report the realization of a fiber-coupled time-bin entangled photon-pair source at 1538 nm. Unlike previous time-bin sources based on type-0 spontaneous parametric down conversion, our approach takes advantage of cross-polarized paired photons generated in a type-II periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide (PPLN/W). Here, we use a birefringent delay line (BDL) in a Michelson configuration to introduce a controllable delay between the paired photons. After the BDL, these photons are separated by a polarizing beam splitter (PBS) at 45° and sent to Alice and Bob. This way we create the non common time-bin entangled Bell state |Ψ ⟩ = 1/√2 [|s,l⟩ + |l,s⟩], where s and l represent the short and long time-bins, respectively.

Demonstration of a polarization-entangled photon-pair source based on phase-modulated PPLN

Paulina S. Kuo, Varun Boehm Verma, Sae Woo Nam

We develop and demonstrate a source of polarization-entangled photon pairs using spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in domain-engineered, periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) at telecom wavelengths. Pumped at 775 nm, this domain-engineered type-II SPDC source produces non-degenerate signal and idler pairs at 1530 nm and 1569 nm. Because of birefringence, the photon pair with horizontally polarized signal and vertically polarized idler has a different phasematching condition than the pair with vertically polarized signal and horizontally polarized idler. Using phase-modulation of the domain structure, we produced a crystal that can simultaneously generate both states in a distributed fashion throughout a single crystal. Performing SPDC using this aperiodically poled crystal, we observed polarization entanglement visibility above 93%. We compare the phase-modulated crystal to other aperiodic structures, including dual-periodically-poled and interlaced biperiodic structures.
