Dynamically induced absorption and stimulated emission in coherently driven atomic systems

Constantine Mavroyannis

We have calculated the excitation spectra of a single electron in the excited state of a three-level atom interacting with two off-resonant laser fields at high intensities. We have also considered the process where one laser photon is absorbed by the ground state, as well as a Raman-type process where one photon of one of the laser fields is emitted while another photon of the other laser field is absorbed simultaneously by the second excited state of the atom. The net excitation spectra of the three processes in question consist of two peaks having always positive intensities indicating induced absorption (attenuation) and a third peak which has positive, zero and negative intensities for values of the Rabi frequencies , and , respectively. When , the Raman-type process prevails over the other two, and the resulting peak has a negative intensity indicating that significant amplification is likely to occur at the corresponding frequency.

Coherent Phase Control of Ultrafast Polarization Beats in Reverse V-Type Three-Level System

Ling Li, Nie Zhi-Qiang, Tong Jiang +5 more

We investigate the third-order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of femto- and atto-second polarization beats between the one-photon degenerate four-wave mixing process and the two-photon nondegenerate four-wave mixing process in the pure homogeneously-broadened reverse V-three-level using twin noisy fields. The third-order nonlinear response can be controlled and modified by the colour-locked correlation of twin noisy fields. Most importantly, the coherent phase control in optical heterodyne detection for studying the phase dispersion of the third-order susceptibility is demonstrated. The radiation-matter detuning oscillation is also considered in the frequency domain.

Study on coherent phase modulation of coherent population trapping in V-type atomic system

Liqiang Wang, Li Yongfang, Cao DongMei +4 more

It is realized that coherent population trapping (CPT) and electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) are modulated by coherent phase modulation in a Vtype atomic system excited by delaytime laser pulses; the modulation period can reach femtosecond order if the proper energy levels are selected. The relation between the delaytime laser pulse and the population of each energy level are investigated by the numerical and analytical solutions. The characteristic and regularity of population modulated by laser fields phase are obtained as well. Utilizing this mechanism, one can get the quantum switch,of which the modulation period can get to femtosecond order.
