Abstract

Abstract. A possible implementation of quantum computation on quantum dots is discussed. We focus on the application of the spin of the electron confined in the quantum dot to read/write operations of quantum bits (qubits). The realization of quantum logic gates is studied for the spin states of the two-electron system confined in the two coupled quantum dots. We also discuss the advantages and limitations of the quantum-dot quantum computing technology.

Spintronics and Quantum Dots for Quantum Computing and Quantum Communication

Guido Burkard, Hans‐Andreas Engel, Daniel Loss

Control over electron-spin states, such as coherent manipulation, filtering and measurement promises access to new technologies in conventional as well as in quantum computation and quantum communication. We review our proposal of using electron spins in quantum confined structures as qubits and discuss the requirements for implementing a quantum computer. We describe several realizations of one- and two-qubit gates and of the read-in and read-out tasks. We discuss recently proposed schemes for using a single quantum dot as spin-filter and spin-memory device. Considering electronic EPR pairs needed for quantum communication we show that their spin entanglement can be detected in mesoscopic transport measurements using metallic as well as superconducting leads attached to the dots.

Quantum computation with quantum dot excitons

Hidehiko Kamada, Hideki Gotoh

Potential application of elementary excitation in semiconductor quantum dot to quantum computation is discussed. We propose a scalable hardware and all optical implementation of a logic gate that exploits the discrete nature of electron–hole states and their well-concentrated oscillator strength for ultrafast gate operation. A multiple-bit gate function is based on the nearest neighbour dipole–dipole coupling. Rabi population oscillation and long-lived coherence of an excitonic two-level system in an isolated InxGa1−xAs quantum dot guarantees quantum gate functions. Technologies that will realize and facilitate the exciton quantum computing are discussed.

Quantum Gates based on Electron Spin in Quantum Dots

Yash Tiwari, Vishvendra Singh Poonia

This work tries to model Single, Double and Triple electrons, spins based gates using quantum dot. These gates form universal gates in quantum computation and are building block of all logic circuits based on quantum gates. These spins are based on electrons which now days can be easily confined in quantum dots using a combination of hetero-structure and metal electrodes [5]. The modelling has taken analytical approach (One and Two Electron System [15], [10], [14]) wherever possible and numerical approach (Three Electron System). The spin manipulations in above three system, show us how to implement some of the important gates in quantum computing [NOT, CNOT,TOFFOLI etc.] in spin based quantum dot system. We think the TOFFOLI implementation is a novel architecture for a electron spin based system. We will also comment on the physical aspect of the simulation work wherever possible . We will also workout the aspect of quantum noise of the system which would be based on Davies Master(DM) Equation [8] based on Markovian approximation and Weak Coupling to the surrounding

Quantum computation based on semiconductor quantum dots

Gang CAO, Guo‐Ping Guo, Hai‐Ou Li +2 more

Quantum computing is the outcome of the size of semiconductor chips breaking the limits of classical physics, and is a landmark technology in the post-Moore's law era. Making use of the quantum properties of electrons in semiconductor quantum dots is believed to be one of the most promising candidates for the realization of quantum computing. In recent years, a series of breakthroughs have been made, including the preparation and readout of qubits, and the manipulation of quantum logic gates. This paper first introduces the background and significance of research on semiconductor quantum dot-based quantum computing and then provides an overview of the developments regarding spin-, charge-, and few-electron-based qubits, as well as the long distance coherent coupling of qubits. Finally, we discuss future trends in semiconductor-based quantum computing.

Universal Quantum Gates based on Quantum Dots

Yash Tiwari, Vishvendra Singh Poonia

In the last decade, a lot of effort have gone to find the most appropriate physical implementation of quantum computer. Quantum dot based system is one of the most promising system owing to its integrability with classical computation hardware and its versatility in realizing qubits and quantum gates. In this work, we propose a model for quantum dot based realization of qubits and quantum gates. The proposed system makes use of semiconductor hetrostructure based quantum dots and gate voltages to confine electrons and thus defining the qubits. Electron spin resonance is used to manipulate the spin state of the electrons. We implement single, double and triple qubit systems and two most widely used universal sets of quantum gates. We show full control of Bloch sphere in single qubit system, CNOT gate implementation in double qubit system and a novel way to implement Toffoli gate in triple qubit system.

Single qubit from two coupled quantum dots: An approach to semiconductor quantum computations

Xin-Qi Li, Yasuhiko Arakawa

A scheme to possibly implement the quantum computer is proposed based on the idea to build up the single qubit from two coupled quantum dots. The spatial separation of the two logic states of the qubit can greatly reduce the decoherence time, which allows one to perform the coherent quantum logic operations at a fairly high ratio. Together with the realization of the universal quantum logic gates, and the proper scheme of quantum measurement, the present proposal can satisfy all the essential criteria for quantum computing.
