Abstract

This paper considers the physical layer security for the cluster-based cooperative wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where each node is equipped with a single antenna and sensor nodes cooperate at each cluster of the network to form a virtual multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication architecture. We propose a joint cooperative beamforming and jamming scheme to enhance the security of the WSNs where a part of sensor nodes in Alice's cluster are deployed to transmit beamforming signals to Bob while a part of sensor nodes in Bob's cluster are utilized to jam Eve with artificial noise. The optimization of beamforming and jamming vectors to minimize total energy consumption satisfying the quality-of-service (QoS) constraints is a NP-hard problem. Fortunately, through reformulation, the problem is proved to be a quadratically constrained quadratic problem (QCQP) which can be solved by solving constraint integer programs (SCIP) algorithm. Finally, we give the simulation results of our proposed scheme.

A Cluster-based Cooperative Jamming Scheme for Secure Communication in Wireless Sensor Network

Tian Zhu, Fei Tong

The environment of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) makes the communication not only have the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, but also be limited to the low power and communication capability of sensor equipment. Both of them make it hard to ensure the confidentiality of communication. In this paper, we propose a cluster-based cooperative jamming scheme based on physical layer security for WSNs. The mathematical principle of the scheme is based on the design principle of code division multiple access. By using the orthogonality of orthogonal vectors, the legitimate receiver can effectively eliminate the noise, which is generated by the cooperative jamming nodes to disturb the eavesdropper. This scheme enables the legitimate receiver to ensure a strong communication confidentiality even if there is no location or channel advantage comparing with eavesdroppers. Through extensive simulations, the security performance of the proposed scheme is investigated in terms of secrecy rate.

To secure amplify-and-forward relay systems via joint cooperative beamforming and jamming

Hui‐Ming Wang, Xiang‐Gen Xia, Qinye Yin

Securing the wireless transmissions in the physical layer is a new perspective of security. In a wireless relay system, cooperative beamforming and jamming are two efficient schemes to improve the physical-layer security in the presence of passive eavesdroppers. However, in most works these two techniques are used in phase II of the cooperative transmission, which leaves the phase I out of protection. In this paper, we propose a joint cooperative beamforming and jamming scheme to enhance the security of a cooperative relay network, where a part of intermediate nodes adopt distributed beamforming while others jam the eavesdropper, simultaneously, such that both phases are secured. Since the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper may not be known, we propose a cooperative artificial noise transmission based secrecy strategy, subjected to the individual power constraint of each node. The beamformer weights and power allocation can be obtained by solving a second-order convex cone programming (SOCP) together with a linear programming problem. Simulations show the joint scheme greatly improves the security.

Joint Cooperative Beamforming and Jamming to Secure AF Relay Systems With Individual Power Constraint and No Eavesdropper's CSI

Cooperative beamforming and jamming are two efficient schemes to improve the physical-layer security of a wireless relay system in the presence of passive eavesdroppers. However, in most works these two techniques are adopted separately. Physical layer security for jamming signal aided multi-antenna communication systems

Hui Ma

Physical layer security is a promising technique for information security. In multi-antenna systems, secure transmission designs are of crucial importance for physical layer security. In this thesis, our research focuses on the secure transmission designs for jamming signal aided multi-antenna systems. We first investigate robust secure transmission designs for a cooperative jamming aided multiple-input-single-output (MISO) system. Two scenarios are considered: (a) eavesdroppers' channel state information (ECSI) is available and (b) ECSI is unavailable. In scenario (a), a quality-of-service (QoS)-based design is considered to minimize the worst case signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio at the eavesdroppers. A secrecy rate based design is also studied. In scenario (b), a QoS-based design is considered to maximize the power of jamming signals, and the secrecy rate based design is not applicable. We propose an algorithm for each design problem through semidefinite relaxation. Our analysis shows that, even though the beamforming scheme in our designs is fixed as single stream beamforming, this does not cause any loss of optimality. We further consider secure transmission designs for a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer enabled MISO heterogeneous cellular network. In the considered system, all base stations (BSs) send confidential messages to information receivers and energy signals to energy receivers (ERs). BSs collaboratively utilize the energy signals as jamming signals to cripple ERs' interceptions. We propose a sum logarithmic secrecy rate maximization design problem. To tackle the design problem, we propose a semidefinite relaxation and successive convex approximation based centralized secure transmission design algorithm. Moreover, an alternating direction method of multipliers based distributed secure transmission design is also proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Secure transmission is designed for a cooperative jamming aided MISO non-orthogonal multiple access system. We consider an outage constrained secure transmission design problem under the assumption that only statistical ECSI is available. In the design problem, the minimum probabilistic secrecy rate is maximized. Based on 0-norm and the path-following approach, we develop an algorithm to find a solution to the design problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the secrecy outage probability can be guaranteed through the proposed secure transmission design algorithm.

Joint Cooperative Beamforming and Jamming for Physical-Layer Security of Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks

Haiyan Guo, Zhen Yang, Linghua Zhang +2 more

This paper proposes a new joint cooperative beamforming and jamming (JCBJ) scheme for improving the physical layer security of decode-and-forward wireless networks where a source node transmits to its destination with the aid of multiple intermediate nodes in the presence of an eavesdropper. In the proposed JCBJ scheme, we select the intermediate nodes succeeding in source decoding as the relays to forward the source transmission simultaneously by employing a beamforming weight vector, and meanwhile, use the remaining ones as the friendly jammers to disturb the eavesdropper by sending artificial noise. In order to achieve the secrecy rate maximum, we further study on the power allocation among the source, relays, and jammers under two assumptions of the wiretap link's channel state information. We derive the closed-form optimal solutions by first allocating the transmit power at the source within different ranges to consider all the possible relay selection schemes in which different numbers of relays are employed, and then transforming the multivariable power allocation problem to a set of single-variable optimization subproblems. Our numerical results show the superiority of the proposed JCBJ scheme and the proposed power allocation strategies.

Outage constrained secrecy rate maximization using artificial-noise aided beamforming and cooperative jamming

Lin Hu, Bin Wu, Jie Tang +2 more

In this paper, we consider physical layer security in wireless communication networks in which a source (Alice) intends to send a confidential message to a legitimate destination (Bob) with the help of a cooperative jammer (CJ), in the presence of a passive eavesdropper (Eve). Assuming that only statistical channel state information (CSI) of Eve is available, artificial-noise (AN) assisted beamforming and cooperative jamming are designed. The goal is to maximize the secrecy rate, subject to a constraint on secrecy outage probability. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of our scheme. Moreover, a higher secure energy efficiency (EE) can be achieved as compared with other schemes without a cooperative jammer.
