Abstract

We show the generation of fully uncorrelated photon pairs in an integrated device. A fully separable state is obtained by independent control over the quality factors of the resonances involved in the parametric fluorescence process.

Limits of heralded single-photon sources based on parametric photon-pair generation

Stéphane Virally, S. Lacroix, Nicolas Godbout

We derive calculations on the statistics of a heralded single-photon source based on parametric photon-pair generation. These calculations highlight fundamental and practical limits for these sources and show which physical parameters can be optimized to improve the quality of a real source.

Control of the frequency correlations of entangled photons to produce a pure heralded single photon source

John F. Suárez-Pérez, Alejandra Valencia, Mayerlin Núñez Portela

A heralded single photon source is implemented from a spontaneous down conversion process. Frequency correlations between photon pairs are controlled by spectral filters. Heralded efficiency and purity of single photons are measured under different conditions.

Truly unentangled photon pairs without spectral filtering

Z. Vernon, M. Menotti, Christopher C. Tison +8 more

We demonstrate that an integrated silicon microring resonator is capable of efficiently producing photon pairs that are completely unentangled; such pairs are a key component of heralded single-photon sources. A dual-channel interferometric coupling scheme can be used to independently tune the quality factors associated with the pump and signal and idler modes, yielding a biphoton wavefunction with a Schmidt number arbitrarily close to unity. This will permit the generation of heralded single-photon states with unit purity.

Photonic crystal waveguides as sources of counterpropagating factorizable biphoton states

Sina Saravi, Thomas Pertsch, Frank Setzpfandt

We demonstrate numerically that photonic crystal slab waveguides can generate spectrally unentangled biphoton states, highly desired for heralding of single photons. We achieve this by modally phase matching a counterpropagating spontaneous parametric down-conversion process, in a fully integrated scheme and without the need for periodic poling. Such a configuration is an ideal integrated source of heralded single photons, as it spatially separates the photons of a pair at the source without any extra components, while allowing for generation of spectrally narrow photons on a very short length scale.

We report an integrated, CMOS-compatible source of multiplexed heralded photons, distributed over several wavelengths at standard communication channels and compatible with quantum memories. Our system operates in a self-locked mode without an external pump laser.
