Classical solitons for a one-dimensional many-body system with inverse-square interaction

Bill Sutherland, Joel F. Campbell

We investigate solitons in the one-dimensional classical many-body system of particles interacting by an inverse-square pair potential. We use a combination of numerical results for finite systems, and exact results for the continuum limit, to deduce properties of solitons in the thermodynamic limit. Two remarkable conjectures are supported by these results, and the correspondence with the exact results for the quantum system is established.

Collective Coordinate Approach to Statistical Mechanics of Soliton Systems. II. Non-Canonical Method

Mitsuto Fukuma, Satoshi Takada

Quantum statistical mechanics of soliton systems is developed in the path integral formalizm by making use of the non-canonical collective coordinate method. The free energy is calculated in the ideal-gas approximation up to the order of two-loop. Explicit calculations are given for the sine-Gordon model. The classical limit of the present quantum calculation agrees with the exact result of the low-temperature expansion of the transfer-integral method. Numerical calculation reveals the quantum effect on the specific heat.

Many-body solitonlike states of the bosonic ideal gas

Rafał Ołdziejewski, Wojciech Górecki, Krzysztof Pawłowski +1 more

We study the lowest energy states for fixed total momentum, i.e., yrast states, of $N$ bosons moving on a ring. As in the paper of Syrwid and Sacha [Phys. Rev. A 92, 032110 (2015)], we compare mean-field solitons with the yrast states, being the many-body Lieb-Liniger eigenstates. We show that even in the limit of vanishing interaction the yrast states possess features typical for solitons, like phase jumps and density notches. These properties are simply effects of the bosonic symmetrization and are encoded in the Dicke states hidden in the yrast states.
