Abstract

We theoretically investigate optical bistability for a hybrid optomechanical system, where two cavities (an optomechanical cavity and a traditional one) are coupled together. A Kerr medium is inserted in the optomechanical cavity and there is an ultra-cold atomic gas inside the other. Dynamics of the system is described by Heisenberg-Langevin equations of motion in the steady-state regime. Bistability is observed in intracavity intensity for the optomechanical cavity, and the response of this phenomenon to optical parameters of the system is investigated. It is observed that the atomic medium has a deep effect on bistable behavior of intracavity intensity for the optomechanical cavity. Also, we determine a critical value for the Kerr coefficient of the Kerr medium to observe bistability in intracavity intensity for the optomechanical cavity.

Bistability in a Hybrid Optomechanical System under the Effect of a Nonlinear Medium

A. Asghari Nejad, Hassan Randjbar Askari, Hamid Reza Baghshahi

We investigate a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of two coupled cavities, one of them is composed of two-end fixed mirrors (called the traditional cavity), and the other has a one-end oscillating mirror (named as the optomechanical cavity). A Kerr medium is inside the traditional cavity to enhance the nonlinearity due to the fact that it can cause observing of bistable behavior in intracavity intensity for the optomechanical cavity. The Hamiltonian of the system is written in a rotating frame and its dynamics is described by quantum Langevin equations of motion. Our proposed system exhibits unconventional plots for the mean photon number of the optomechanical cavity which are not observed in previous works. The present results show a deep effect of the Kerr medium on optical bistability of intracavity intensity for the optomechanical cavity. Also, coupling strength of the cavities can effectively change the stability of the system.

Optical bistability at lower photon number via photon and phonon interaction in the presence of Kerr nonlinearity

Zhen Wang, Xian-Kai Jiang, Heng-Mei Li +3 more

Abstract Optical bistability is theoretically analyzed in a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of an optical cavity including a Kerr medium and an optomechanical cavity coupled by direct tunnel coupling. The dynamics of the system is described by Heisenberg–Langevin equations. It is numerically shown that there is a critical value of the Kerr coefficient to observe the bistability of the intracavity intensity for a given coupling rate, and the changing of the Kerr coefficient will lead to the changing of the critical point to observe the bistability as well. In addition, the first critical value to observe bistability becomes larger with the increasing coupling rate between the two cavities. It is also demonstrated that the pump beam required to realize the bistable behavior in the blue sideband regime is significantly smaller than that in the red sideband regime. And the mean intracavity photon number is relatively larger in the red sideband case than that in the blue sideband case. It is remarkable to observe that the mean intracavity photon numbers in both cavities are much lower than that in ordinary situations.

Bistable optical response of a three-cavity hybrid optomechanical system: effect of Kerr nonlinearity

Hamidreza Foroughi, Nader Daneshfar

In this study, we theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in hybrid triple-cavity optomechanical systems (OMSs) composed of three coupled cavities (two optical cavities and one optomechanical cavity) in the presence of semiconductor quantum dot molecules and a Kerr medium with a Kerr coefficient of χ when the optomechanical cavity is driven by a pump laser with frequency ωp and the amplitude Ep, which results in optical pressure on the movable mirror of the OMS. The dynamical equations of motion for this triple-cavity hybrid system in the steady state limit are solved using the Heisenberg-Langevin equations to achieve OB. We have demonstrated that it is possible to adjust both the width of the hysteresis loop and the switching threshold by controlling the Kerr coefficient . t is found that by properly tuning the physical parameters, the bistable thresholds of the system can be switched on and switched off, which is useful for designing and optimizing sensitive all-optical switching .

Optical bistabilities in cavity optomechanics

In this review, we will focus on optical bistability and the condition for its occurrence in cavity optomechanics. We study different optomechanical systems (basic optomechanical systems and hybrid optomechanical systems). we derived an equation that could predict the behavior of the system either bistable, transistor or monostable for each system considered depending on the value of its parameters. This equation is derived using analytical study for functional relation between the incident intensity field as a function of the optical cavity field intensity. Investigating the relation between any physical measurable quantity in the optomechanical system against the incident field intensity and its dependency on fundamental optical cavity field against the incident field intensity. Finally, studying the effects of integrating two types of atomic media into the optomechanical system, and tunability it could provide to the optomechanical system, each medium is separately studied. The atomic medium also tends to squeeze the domain of the bistability within the system relative to the basic optomechanical system

Optical bistability and dynamics in an optomechanical system with a two-level atom

Cheng Jiang, Xintian Bian, Yuanshun Cui +1 more

We study the optical bistability and dynamics in a hybrid optomechanical system, where the cavity mode is coupled to the mechanical resonator via radiation pressure and to a two-level atom via the Jaynes–Cummings coupling. The nonlinearity due to optomechanical coupling and the addition of an atom leads to bistable behaviors of the steady-state intracavity photon number and atomic population inversion. We show that the optical bistability can be effectively controlled by the Rabi frequency of the atomic driving field, the cavity–atom coupling strength, and the amplitude and frequency of the cavity pump field. Moreover, the effects of different initial conditions of the cavity field and the amplitude of the cavity pump field on the dynamics of the system also have been discussed.

Optical bistability and entanglement in two optically coupled cavities under the effect of a nonlinear medium

Surabhi Yadav, Vijay Bhatt, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee +1 more

We theoretically investigate optical bistability and entanglement in a hybrid nonlinear system of two coupled cavities via a single-mode waveguide. The left cavity contains an ensemble of N quantum dots (QDs) and a Kerr medium to enhance the nonlinearity as it causes to observe the bistable behaviour of the system. We study the Kerr medium, QD ensemble, and cavity coupling effect on bistability response shown by mean intracavity photons in the left cavity. In addition, we have shown entanglement between different subsystems and found that entanglement can be generated between the two coupled cavity photons, cavity photons, and QD ensembles. Additionally, we investigate the effect of different parameters on entanglement. Our findings show that Kerr nonlinearity and the hopping parameter between the two cavities can effectively control the optical properties of the proposed hybrid system, which can be used to design efficient optical devices and the entangled optical photons have applications such as quantum information transfer.
