Effect of Intersection Angle between Saturation and Probe Beams on Saturated Absorption Spectra

Abstract

Abstract The effect of intersection angle between saturation and probe beams in saturation spectroscopy is analyzed. The spectral width of the resonance line almost linearly with the intersection angle, while the width of the cross-over line remains almost constant. The peak value of the resonance line decreases non-linearly with angle, while the peak value of the cross-over line is also almost constant.

Coherent Resonance of Saturated Absorption in Spectroscopy of Counterpropagating Waves

А. А. Черненко, Э. Г. Сапрыкин, Anatolii M. Shalagin

Results of theoretical researches of the saturated absorption resonance shape in a method of the probing field on V-type of transitions are represented. It is shown that in case of opposite circulary polarized optical fields the resonance is shown in the form of cross, and its form strongly depends on relaxation constants of levels and it can be represented as in the form of a dip, and absorption peak. Thus the peak form has exclusively coherent character. Atomic transitions are offered, on which observation of the given effect is possible.

Spatial-asymmetry distribution of a saturated-absorption peak

A. Le Floch, Roger Le Naour, J. Lenormand +1 more

The amount of asymmetry of saturated-absorption peaks observed outside a cavity with two collinearly counter-propagating Gaussian beams is analyzed at different points in the cross section of the probe beam. Although the total beam exhibits a quasi-symmetric line shape, a spatial distribution of asymmetries with different amounts and signs is obtained versus the distance to the beam axis. A simple model taking account of pure focusing and defocusing effects induced by a saturated Gaussian beam leads to agreement between experiment and theory for the 5944-A neon line in the case of saturated-absorption spectroscopy.

Line Shape of Saturated Absorption Spectra of Cs D2 Line

Cha‐Hwan Oh, Shin-ichi Ohshima Shin-ichi Ohshima

The line shape of the saturated absorption spectra of the 133Cs D2 line was examined. In particular, the resonance signal for the transition from 6S1/2, F=4 to 6P3/2, F ′=5 was carefully examined and found to be very sensitive to the saturating beam intensity and magnetic field, which was due to the population redistribution of the ground hyperfiue level. When the polarizations of the saturating and probing beams were linear and their directions were parallel, even the chage of sign was observed. The magnitude and linewidth of the signal were controlled by adjusting the saturating beam intensity and the magnetic field as well as the laser polarization.

Saturated-interference spectroscopy

Frank V. Kowalski, W. T. Hill, ARTHUR L. SCHAWLOW

The background in saturation spectroscopy is decreased by balancing the probe beam, in amplitude and phase, against a second probe, using a configuration like a Jamin interferometer. This improves the signal-to-noise ratio. If the phase is adjustable to provide best balance while the laser is tuned, the signal is proportional to the square of the absorption, and the line width is accordingly reduced.
