Abstract

In this paper we have demonstrated coherent population trapping and Rydberg state excitation in the five level media. We have analysed the influence of non zero multiphoton detunings and the self-phase modulation on these processes.

Coherent Population Trapping in Multi-Level Atomic Systems

Laurentius Windholz

Coherent population trapping (CPT) is treated in multi–level systems, excited by two– or four–frequency laser light. The dynamics of filling non–absorbing (dark) states is investigated. In cases where all transitions involved are excited (closed systems), the effect becomes dependent on the relative phase of the light waves. Further electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is described in three– and four–level systems and used for effective side band generation.

Coherent population trapping in a two-level atom excited by a resonant field under amplitude and phase modulation

N. V. Sushilov, V. V. Brunbender

Recently, the existence of population-trapping states in a two-level system driven by a frequency-modulated field has been demonstrated. In this work we show such states can exist in a two-level atom driven by both an amplitude- and phase- modulated field.

Influence of multiphoton detunings from resonance on adiabatic processes in a five-level system

E. A. Gazazyan, G. G. Grigoryan

The Schrödinger equation for a five-level system has been analyzed numerically for different values of multiphoton detuning from exact resonances. The range of admissible deviations for which the effect of multiphoton detunings on the eigenstate of the interaction Hamiltonian imitating a three-level system is insignificant has been determined. The effective population transfer and the possibility of double storage of optical information have been demonstrated.

Coherent population trapping in multilevel laser-induced continuum structure system including cascade two-photon processes

Gao‐xiang Li, Huang Guang-ming, PENG JIN-SHENG

We have investigated the atomic coherent population trapping in a multilevel laser-induced continuum structure system including cascade two-photon processes, in which two sets of quasicontinua of excited levels to be modeled as the Bixon-Jortner quasicontinuum are laser-embedded into a previously structureless atomic continuum. The condition leading to the atomic coherent population trapping and the coherent population trapping state are given explicitly. And the effects of the Fano factors, the laser intensities and the detunings on the amount of population trapped in the atomic bound states and the populations distributed in the two sets of quasicontinua are also examined.

Molecular multiphoton excitation by phase coherent pulse pairs

Sylvette Besnaïnou, J.-C. Diels, James P. Stone

We theoretically analyze the absorption of media excited by a pair of coherent pulses, as a function of their relative phase, in conditions of multiphoton resonance and negligible dephasing. It is shown that, the periodicity of transmission vs delay and phase, is characteristic of the nature and order of the process. Also a multilevel system may evolve from pure multiphoton resonance to cascade resonance under specific conditions depending on the detunings of the levels involved.

Influence of a magnetic field on coherent population trapping in atomic systems of degenerated levels

T. Ya. Karagodova

Coherent population trapping effect is widely studied for simple three-level systems of different types ((Xi) 2, (Lambda) , V)1,2. For real atoms the situation is more complicated. Atomic levels are degenerated one and in the presence of external fields coupling of magnetic sublevels appears due to radiation, so magnetic fields leading to the systems of levels of the higher order. Our theory and method of calculation for interaction of multilevel atoms, with intense radiation fields in the presence of external magnetic fields have been applied for considering coherent population trapping effect for such systems. In the absence of magnetic field for considering sets of parameters, we can see the behavior of populations in function of time, detunings for both systems of coupled sublevels inherent to the coherent population trapping effect. In the presence of magnetic field, we can see novel features in the populations for the systems of coupled magnetic sublevels.
