Abstract

In this paper, we consider the transmission of confidential information over an α-μ and a κ-μ fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper who experiences κ-μ and α-μ fading, respectively. In particular, we derive novel analytical expressions for the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) and a lower bound on secrecy outage probability (SOPL) for independent and non-identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) channel coefficients. These results have been validated through simulations and reduction to known special cases. These new, very general formulations, are important as they bring together previously non-unified secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probabilities (SOP) such as those involving α-μ, Nakagami-m, Rayleigh, OneSided Gaussian, Weibull, Negative Exponential with κ-μ and Rice. Additionally, due to the duality of analysis of secrecy capacity and co-channel interference (CCI), the results presented here will also have immediate applicability in the analysis of outage probability in wireless systems affected by CCI and background noise for the aforementioned fading scenarios.

Secrecy Capacity Analysis Over $\kappa $ – $\mu $ Fading Channels: Theory and Applications

Nidhi Bhargav, Simon L. Cotton, Nidhi Simmons

In this paper, we consider the transmission of confidential information over a κ-μ fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper who also experiences κ-μ fading. In particular, we obtain novel analytical solutions for the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) and a lower bound of secure outage probability (SOPL) for independent and non-identically distributed channel coefficients without parameter constraints. We also provide a closed-form expression for the probability of SPSC when the μ parameter is assumed to take positive integer values. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to verify the derived results. The versatility of the κ-μ fading model means that the results presented in this paper can be used to determine the probability of SPSC and SOPL for a large number of other fading scenarios, such as Rayleigh, Rice (Nakagamin), Nakagami-m, One-Sided Gaussian, and mixtures of these common fading models. In addition, due to the duality of the analysis of secrecy capacity and co-channel interference (CCI), the results presented here will have immediate applicability in the analysis of outage probability in wireless systems affected by CCI and background noise (BN). To demonstrate the efficacy of the novel formulations proposed here, we use the derived equations to provide a useful insight into the probability of SPSC and SOPL for a range of emerging wireless applications, such as cellular device-to-device, peer-to-peer, vehicle-to-vehicle, and body centric communications using data obtained from real channel measurements.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of SIMO Systems Over Correlated $\kappa$ –$\mu$ Shadowed Fading Channels

Jiangfeng Sun, Hongxia Bie, Xingwang Li +3 more

In this paper, the secrecy performance of single-input-multiple-output systems over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels is investigated. In particular, based on the classic Wyner's wiretap model, we derive analytical expressions for secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels. In order to further study the impact of channel parameters on the secrecy performance, novel SOP and the probability of SPSC over independent and identically distributed κ-μ shadowed fading channels are also obtained. In addition, we discuss the asymptotic expressions of the SOP and the SPSC. The match between the analytical results and simulations is excellent for all parameters under considerations. It is interesting to find that the results show that when the signal-to-noise ratio of the main channel is lower than that of the eavesdropping channel, the larger value of correlation coefficient is helpful to improve the secrecy performance and vice versa.

Unified Analysis of Secrecy Capacity Over N* Nakagami Cascaded Fading Channel

Rupender Singh, Meenakshi Rawat

With fast growth of wireless services, there is a need to investigate the performance of a confidential communication through the wireless fading channel. In this work, a study is conducted on the secrecy outage performance of wireless system operating over N*Nakagami cascaded fading channel. First, the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC)are derived in closed-form using Meijer-G function with single eavesdropper. To extend the discussion to multi eavesdroppers’ scenario, the case of two eavesdroppers areconsidered. In particular, SOP and SPSC are derived in closed-form expressions using the extended generalized bivariate Miejer-G function (EGBMGF).

Comprehensive Framework for Physical Layer Analysis over Generalized-Lognormal composite Fading channels

Rahul Maurya, Puspraj Singh Chauhan, Vimal Bhatia +1 more

Abstract Physical layer security is a feasible solution to improve wireless communication secrecy against eavesdropping threats. Within this framework, this work examines the secrecy performance of a wireless link subjected to eavesdropping over generalized composite fading environments, specifically using the α-η-µ/Lognormal and α-κ-µ/Lognormal distributions. Closed-form results are derived for key secrecy performance metrics, including the average secrecy capacity (ASC), a lower bound on the secrecy outage probability SOPL, and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC). Additionally, asymptotic analyses of ASC, SOPL, and SPSC are presented in the high-SNR regime to yield simplified insights into system behavior. The analysis accommodates arbitrary and independent fading conditions for the main and eavesdropper channels, thereby enabling a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of various channel parameters. Ultimately, all analytical outcomes are corroborated using comprehensive Monte Carlo simulations, affirming their precision and relevance.

Secrecy Performance of α − κ − μ Shadowed Fading Channel

A. S. M. Badrudduza, Sheikh Habibul Islam, Milton Kumar Kundu +1 more

In this paper, the physical layer security aspects of a wireless framework over α−κ−μ shadowed (AKMS) fading channel are examined by acquiring closed-form novel expressions of average secrecy capacity, secure outage probability (SOP), and strictly positive secrecy capacity. The lower bound of SOP is derived along with the asymptotic expression of SOP at the high signal-to-noise ratio regime in order to achieve secrecy diversity gain. Capitalizing on these expressions, the consequences due to the simultaneous occurrence of fading and shadowing are quantified. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are demonstrated to assess the correctness of the expressions.

Secrecy performance analysis over mixed α-μ and κ-μ fading channels

Jules Merlin Moualeu, Walaa Hamouda

In this paper, we investigate the physical-layer (PHY) security problem of a wireless communication system over mixed generalized fading channels. We consider the transmission of confidential information between a transmitter and a legitimate receiver over an α-μ fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper who is subject to κ-μ fading. Both the α-μ and κ-μ distributions have been considered in the literature to model the generalized small-scale fading and such a mixed fading propagation environment can be encountered in practical systems where one channel is described for its non-linearity and clustering properties whereas the other has a line-of-sight (LOS) component. In particular, novel analytical expressions for the exact and asymptotic average secrecy capacity (ASC) are derived. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to assess the accuracy of the proposed mathematical analysis.
