Fast Quantum Rabi Model with Trapped Ions

Abstract

We show how to produce a fast quantum Rabi model with trapped ions. Its importance resides not only in the acceleration of the phenomena that may be achieved with these systems, from quantum gates to the generation of nonclassical states of the vibrational motion of the ion, but also in reducing unwanted effects such as the decay of coherences that may appear in such systems.

Simple and Fast Scheme for Realizing Quantum Logic Gates in an Ion Trap

Zheng Shi-Biao

We propose a simple and fast scheme to realize a controlled-NOT gate between two trapped ions using a resonant laser pulse. Our scheme allows the Rabi frequency of the laser field to be of the order of the vibrational frequency and thus the time required to complete the operation is greatly shortened, which is of importance in view of decoherence.

Generation of Pair Coherent States in Two-dimensional Trapped Ion

Kaige Wang, Sabrina Maniscalco, Anna Napoli +1 more

We consider a two-dimensional (2D) trapped ion model in which two laser beams drive the corresponding vibrational motions and are carrier resonant with the two-level of the ion. Due to the coherent superposition of two sub-Rabi oscillations involved in the bimodal vibrations, the Rabi frequency degeneration and offset may occur in this model. This provides the possibility of generating the pair coherent state in the 2D trapped ion.

Ion Trap Quantum Computing with Warm Ions

Gerard J Milburn, Sara Schneider, Daniel F. V. James

We describe two schemes to manipulate the electronic qubit states of trapped ions independent of the collective vibrational state of the ions. The first scheme uses an adiabatic method, and thus is intrinsically slow. The second scheme takes the opposite approach and uses fast pulses to produce an effective direct coupling between the electronic qubits. This last scheme enables the simulation of a number of nonlinear quantum systems including systems that exhibit phase transitions, and other semiclassical bifurcations. Quantum tunnelling and entangled states occur in such systems.

Fast scheme for generating quantum-interference states and GHZ state of N trapped ions

Zheng Xiao-Juan, Mao-Fa Fang, Xiang-Ping Liao +2 more

We propose a fast scheme to generate the quantum-interference states of N trapped ions. In the scheme the ions are driven by a standing-wave laser beam whose carrier frequency is tuned such that the ion transition can take place. We also propose a simple and fast scheme to produce the GHZ state of N hot trapped ions and this scheme is insensitive to the heating of vibrational motion, which is important from the viewpoint of decoherence.
