Abstract

Abstract We propose an adiabatic-passage scheme for the generation of three-qutrit singlet states with two-level trapped ions. Distinctly different from previous proposals, we encode qutrits in Dicke states with two-level ions and use the adiabatic-evolution techniques in order not to exactly control the laser pulses, making the realization of the scheme much easier. Furthermore, the phonon is only virtually excited in the procedure, so the effect of the phonon losses can be reduced.

Two-qutrit maximally entangled states prepared via adiabatic passage in ion-trapped system

Bin Huang, Xia Lin, Hui Lin +2 more

This paper considers a scheme for the preparation of two-qutrit entangled states via adiabatic passage in ion-trapped system. In the proposal, the two three-level V-type ions are initially cooled to the ground states and need not be separately addressed. Moreover, only the ionic states act as memory and the system evolves in the dark space during the whole procedure, which makes the system robust against the decoherence and the fluctuation of the laser pulse.

Generation of Dicke states using adiabatic passage

Kenji Toyoda, Toshikazu Watanabe, T. Kimura +3 more

Entangled states of two ions are realized by using an adiabatic process. Based on the proposal by Linington and Vitanov [Phys. Rev. A 77, 010302 (2008)], we have generated Dicke states in optical qubits of two $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$${}^{+}$ ions by applying frequency-chirped optical pulses with time-dependent envelopes to perform rapid adiabatic passage on sideband transitions. One of the biggest advantages of adiabatic approaches is their robustness against variations in experimental parameters, which is verified by performing experiments for different pulse widths or peak Rabi frequencies. Fidelities exceeding 0.5, which is the threshold for inseparable states, are obtained over wide ranges of parameter values.

One-step generation of qutrit entanglement via adiabatic passage in cavity quantum electrodynamics

Ma Song-She, Meifeng Chen, Xia-Ping Jiang

A scheme is proposed for generating a three-dimensional entangled state for two atoms trapped in a cavity by one step via adiabatic passage. In the scheme, the two atoms are always in ground states and the field mode of the cavity excited is negligible under a certain condition. Therefore, the scheme is very robust against decoherence. Furthermore, it needs neither the exact control of all parameters nor the accurate control of the interaction time. It is shown that qutrit entanglement can be generated with a high fidelity.

Decoherence-free preparation of Dicke states of trapped ions by collective stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

I. E. Linington, Nikolay V. Vitanov

We propose a simple technique for the generation of arbitrary-sized Dicke states in a chain of trapped ions. The method uses global addressing of the entire chain by two pairs of delayed but partially overlapping laser pulses to engineer a collective adiabatic passage along a multi-ion dark state. Our technique, which is a many-particle generalization of the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage technique, is decoherence free with respect to spontaneous emission and robust against moderate fluctuations in the experimental parameters. Furthermore, because the process is very rapid, the effects of heating are almost negligible under realistic experimental conditions. We predict that the overall fidelity of synthesis of a Dicke state involving ten ions sharing two excitations should approach 98% with currently achievable experimental parameters.
