Influence of field-dependent relaxation on amplification without inversion

Yevgeny V. Radeonychev, Paul Mandel, Olga A. Kocharovskaya

We study a three-level atomic system strongly driven by a monochromatic field resonant to one of atomic transitions. The second highest frequency transition is probed by a weak field. In such a system we predict a novel mechanism of probe field amplification without inversion via strong field induced spontaneous relaxation of the ground atomic state. Unlike the AWI in the (Lambda) -scheme this mechanism appears in case of sufficiently fast relaxation at the low frequency transition.

Electromagnetically induced absorption in four-level atomic system

Wang Li, Song Hai-Zhen, 南阳师范学院物理系,南阳 473061

A four-level atomic system is employed as an example, in which three transitions are in N configuration and the middle transition is used as a probe transition. We show that electromagnetically induced absorption and electromagnetically induced transparency can appear in the four-level N-type atomic system, which are dependent not only on the spontaneous transfer of atomic coherence, but also on the relaxation of the fourth level, the Rabi frequency of the coupling and the control field.

Atomic trapping in the excited state due to dynamically modified spontaneous relaxation

Yevgeny V. Radeonychev, Olga A. Kocharovskaya

We show that three-level atoms can be trapped in the excited energy state, as a result of drastic modification of spontaneous relaxation under the action of strong coherent driving field, when one of two dynamic Stark levels crosses a nearby atomic state.
