Abstract

Cryptography in simple words is an `rt or science of protecting data'. But it's an art which is yet to achieve perfection. The major challenge being faced by it is the intelligence and computational capability of the hacker. All these years the scientists have been working on increasing the computational complexity, but the recent concept of quantum cryptography has added a complete new dimension to this field. The strength of this cryptographic technique comes from the fact that no one can read (`steal') the information without altering its content. This alteration Alerts! the communicators about the possibility of a hacker and thus promising a highly secure data transfer. Due to this advantage, quantum cryptography has grasped a great deal of attention and huge amount of research is being carried out on it. But is quantum the ultimate solution to information security? Will classical cryptography persist? Are all those quantum theory practicable and are there methods for cracking quantum cryptography? All such questions have resulted into the making of this paper. This paper discusses in detail about the versatility of classical cryptography which ensures it an infinite future and the various limitations of quantum cryptography which detains it from becoming the `ultimate solution'. For example... The course of development of all future technologies are mostly directed towards the `wireless', and quantum security for wireless networks is a serious question mark, whereas the classical side is completely independent of the medium of communication. Further, quantum cryptography doesn't support digital signature (fully supported by classical cryptography) which is very vital when it comes to information or key exchange through a shared network. Another main problems faced by quantum cryptography is the transmission distance. It has not exceed 150 Km, and most of the optic fibers which are in current use will attenuate a photon within a much lesser distance. This means a lot of practical problems. To overcome this scientist are working on `Quantum Repeaters' which will serve as a booster for the quantum information. But this will return fire because the hackers can use the same tool as a weapon to steal the information without their presence being discovered thus breaking quantum's main advantage. This new concept of quantum cryptography has come into light and it's now time to decide for the researchers and the consumers as to where they put their money! The study helps solve this issue by bringing out the actual picture of the present developments in quantum and classical cryptography and also discusses in detail about what's in store for the future in these two different cryptographic fields. We emphasis on the various advantages that classical cryptography holds over quantum cryptography and finally we prove that classical and quantum are not like the cassettes and CDs.

Quantum Cryptography - The Future of Communication and Internet Security

Kumari Neha, Amrita Amrita

Cyberspace has become the most popular carrier of information exchange in every corner of our life, which is beneficial for our life in almost all aspects. With the continuous development of science and technology, especially the quantum computer, cyberspace security has become the most critical problem for the Internet in near future. In this paper, we focus on analyzing characteristics of the quantum cryptography and exploring its advantages of it in the future Internet. It is worth noting that we analyze the quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol in the noise-free channel. To include real practical stimulators, there are developed various QKD Schemes for the noisy channels. Here we develop the unconditional security of quantum cryptography theoretically, which is suitable for the Internet as ever-increasing challenges are inevitable in the future. Quantum key distribution (QKD) uses individual light quanta in quantum superposition states to guarantee unconditional communication security between distant parties. In practice, the achievable distance for QKD has been limited to a few hundred kilometers, due to the channel loss of fibers or terrestrial free space that exponentially reduced the photon rate. Also experimentally it is proved that the Satellite-based QKD promises to establish a global-scale quantum network by exploiting the negligible photon loss and decoherence in the empty space. In this paper, we also give some introduction to various public-key cryptography and also touch on the various functions, advantages, and disadvantages of quantum cryptography and the need for quantum cryptography in the future as in data encoding, and digital signatures, and many more. It also covers the various securities issue of our current cryptography system. Different protocols BB84 i.e., the first QKD protocol also some other protocols, and finally the future directions of quantum cryptography followed by the conclusion of the paper.

A Survey on Various Aspects of Quantum Cryptography

Rajesh Kumar Pateriya, Dr.J.L. Rana, Anupriya Gupta

In the era of information technology the need for secure communication has become increasingly important. Cryptography is a technology for creating the core of information security we use cryptography for making data secure which is the science of information protection from unauthorized interception and tempering. Most modern cryptographic studies design cryptosystems and algorithms using mathematical concepts which are based either on factorization or on discrete logarithm problem. In recent years quantum information research has lead to the discovery of a number of remarkable new paradigms for information processing and communication. These developments include quantum cryptography schemes that offer unconditionally secure information transport guaranteed by quantum-mechanical laws, which provide protection of system security, and optimization of system efficiency and detects intrusion and wiretap. Today quantum cryptography is used in various application for transferring secure data without the fear of keys being compromised. This paper reviews the various areas where quantum  cryptography is successfully implemented, its advantages disadvantages & technical issues.

Limitations and Future Applications of Quantum Cryptography

Neeraj Kumar, Alka Agrawal, Brijesh K. Chaurasia +1 more

The concept of quantum computing is based on two fundamental principles of quantum mechanics: superposition and entanglement. Instead of using bits, qubits are used in quantum computing, which is a key indicator in the high level of safety and security this type of cryptography ensures. If interfered with or eavesdropped in, qubits will delete or refuse to send, which keeps the information safe. This is vital in the current era where sensitive and important personal information can be digitally shared online. In computer networks, a large amount of data is transferred worldwide daily, including anything from military plans to a country’s sensitive information, and data breaches can be disastrous. This is where quantum cryptography comes into play. By not being dependent on computational power, it can easily replace classical cryptography.Limitations and Future Applications of Quantum Cryptography is a critical reference that provides knowledge on the basics of IoT infrastructure using quantum cryptography, the differences between classical and quantum cryptography, and the future aspects and developments in this field. The chapters cover themes that span from the usage of quantum cryptography in healthcare, to forensics, and more. While highlighting topics such as 5G networks, image processing, algorithms, and quantum machine learning, this book is ideally intended for security professionals, IoT developers, computer scientists, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the most recent research on quantum computing

In recent years Quantum Cryptography gets more attention as well as becomes most promising cryptographic field for faster, effective and more secure communications. Quantum Cryptography is an art of science which overlap quantum properties of light under quantum mechanics on cryptographic task instead of current state of algorithms based on mathematical computing technology. Major algorithms for public key encryption and some digital signature scheme such as RSA, El Gamal cryptosystem, hash function are vulnerable at quantum adversaries. Most of the factoring problem can be broken by Shore's algorithm and quantum computer threatens other hand discrete logarithm problem. Our paper describes why modern cryptography contributes quantum cryptography, security issues and future goals of modern cryptography.

A study on the development of quantum cryptography and some challenging issues

Malinka Ivanova, Emanuil Ilchov

Quantum cryptography is a revolutionary field that applies the principles of quantum mechanics to provide secure communication channels. One of the most popular techniques in quantum cryptography is Quantum Key Distribution, which uses quantum states to deliver secure keys. The main advantage of quantum cryptography is that it offers protection against eavesdropping and tampering, which is not possible with classical encryption methods. This is because copying data in a quantum state is virtually impossible, and any attempt to intercept or manipulate the data will result in its complete alteration. As a result, any third-party interference can be detected quickly. Traditional cryptographic algorithms used in modern cryptography are vulnerable to attacks due to the evolution of quantum computers and mathematical advances in the decomposition of large integers. Therefore, the solution to address this vulnerability is to apply the principles of quantum physics to cryptography. The aim of the paper is to survey the current scientific achievements in the field of quantum cryptography and to present some challenging issues.
