Abstract

This paper investigates impact of hardware impairments on the probability of Non-zero Secrecy Capacity (NSC) of multi-hop relay networks. In the considered protocol, multiple eavesdroppers attempt to overhear the data that is relayed from a source to a destination via multiple intermediate relay nodes. To enhance the secrecy performance, the multi-hop randomize-and-forward (RF) strategy is used to confuse the eavesdroppers. We derive exact expressions of the NSC probability in integral forms over Rayleigh fading channels. Moreover, these formulas are then expressed by sums of infinite series of exponential functions and exponential integral functions. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify our derivations.

In this paper, we evaluate probability of non-zero secrecy capacity of multi-hop relay networks over Nakagamim fading channels in presence of hardware impairments. In the considered protocol, a source attempts to transmit its data to a destination by using multi-hop randomize-and-forward (RF) strategy. The data transmitted by the source and relays are overheard by an eavesdropper. For performance evaluation, we derive exact expressions of probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PoNSC), which are expressed by sums of infinite series of exponential functions and exponential integral functions. We then perform Monte Carlo simulations to verify the theoretical analysis.

Impact of hardware impairments on secrecy performances of wireless relay systems

Tin Tran Phu

Security is one of the most important issues in wireless communication.Because using wireless channels entails broadcasting data transmissions, malicious nodes can eavesdrop on wireless transmission, which leads to insecure data transmission.Traditional security methods are based on cryptography.Recently, physical-layer security (PLS) has gained much attention as an efficient method of obtaining secure information without using cryptography.PLS protocols employ the physical characteristics of wireless channels such as channel state information (CSI) and the distances between connection links in order to enhance secrecy performances in wireless systems. To enhance secrecy performances, the dual-hop/multi-hop relay protocols can be used efficiently. However, according to my best knowledge, there are few published works considering the impact of hardware impairments on secrecy performances for the wireless relaying networks.Hence, this dissertation examines the diversity-based relay protocols for wireless communication networks in order to improve secrecy performances in presence of hardware imperfections.First, new dual-hop and multi-hop cooperative relaying schemes with various relay selection methods are proposed in order to obtain improved secrecy performance compared with the existing schemes.Second, new joint relay and jammer selection protocols are also considered in order to improve the channel capacity for data links while reducing the channel capacity of eavesdropping links. Finally, this dissertation proposes harvest-to-transmit and harvest-to-jam protocols, where the relay and jammer nodes harvest energy from the radio frequency signal for use in the data transmission and the jamming process, respectively. To evaluate the performance of the proposed protocols over fading channels, this dissertation focuses on deriving the closed-form expressions for secrecy performances. Then, the derived expressions are verified by Monte Carlo simulations, which also present the advantages of the proposed protocols.

Secrecy outage probability of relay networking in multiple destination and eavesdropper scenarios

Esa R. Alotaibi, Khairi Ashour Hamdi

This paper investigates the secrecy outage probability of multicast cooperative relay networking in the presence of multi-destination and multi-eavesdropper nodes. The study is carried out in a multicast relay communication scenario whereby multi-eavesdropper nodes attempt to overhear the source message. Most of the previous studies in the field of cooperative communications and relay selection have considered the presence of either a single eavesdropper or a single destination environment. However, in the actual multicast communication scenario, multi-destination and multi-eavesdropper are presented. We therefore consider an optimal relay selection scheme in order to increase secrecy capacity for multi-destinations and to decrease it for eavesdroppers. The performance of the system is analysed using secrecy outage probability in Rayleigh and Rician fading scenarios, and the results are confirmed through Monte Carlo simulations. The proposed model is compared with other cooperative communication scenarios.

Physical Layer Secrecy Performance of Multi-hop Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks with Multiple Eavesdroppers

Duc‐Dung Tran, Nguyen‐Son Vo, Tan-Loc Vo +1 more

Today, wireless networks become the most popular way to communicate. However, information can be easily eavesdropped or extracted by eavesdroppers due to the broadcast nature of wireless communication. Multi-hop relay communication systems provide for higher secrecy performance than direct transmission techniques. In this paper, the physical layer secrecy performance of multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relay network is investigated in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers over Nakagami-m fading channels. To do so, we find out the exact closed-form expressions of existence probability of secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability by using statistical characteristics of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Importantly, these expressions are in more general forms compared to other results in the literature. The proposed results show a quite agreement between numerical analysis and equivalent Monte-Carlo simulations.

Security-Reliability Analysis of Noma-Based Multi-Hop Relay Networks in Presence of an Active Eavesdropper with Imperfect Eavesdropping CSI

Phu Tran Tin, The Hung Dang, Trung Duy Tran +1 more

In this paper, we evaluate system performances of a multi-hop relay protocol with presence of an active eavesdropper. In the proposed protocol, a source attempts to transmit its data to a destination with assistance of multiple intermediate relays. From the eavesdropping Channel State Information (CSI) estimated, the source and relays adjust their transmit power so that the eavesdropper cannot overhear the transmitted data. Moreover, to enhance throughput for the proposed system, Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) technique with a simple power allocation is also proposed. We derive exact closed-form expressions of the Outage Probability (OP) and throughput for the data transmission over Rayleigh fading channel. In addition, when the CSI estimation is imperfect, Intercept Probability (IP) at the eavesdropper is derived. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are presented to verify the theoretical derivations.
