Abstract

Secure key distribution is the fundamental problem in traditional symmetric key cryptography. Many techniques came into existence to safeguard key distribution. The core functionality of a key management technique is to share a secret key between two parties in secure and efficient fashion. This is the most important concern when cryptography is integrated with a communication network. Adversaries can exploit vulnerabilities in key management mechanism. Quantum key distribution is a promising technique that ensures unconditionally secure distribution of a bit string, a secret key, between two end points. Since quantum cannot be cloned or split, it can be used for providing fool proof mechanism for secure and efficient key management. This paper proposes a novel key management framework with underlying customized protocols to form a quantum trusted network that serve e-Governance applications in India. The custom protocols help to overcome the point-to-point limitation of quantum besides curbing security loopholes for reliable and provably secure communications. Quantum device provided by "Quantum in Cloud" of University of Bristol is used for the empirical study of the proposed framework.

In conventional security mechanism, security services based on symmetric key cryptography assume keys to be distributed prior to secure communications. The core function of exchanging and sharing a secret key between two endpoints are the secure key management methodology which is one of the most critical elements need to be more concerned when integrating cryptographic functions into the system. In case the key management mechanisms is weak can lead to the vulnerability holes or a potentially fatal outsider attacks as the harmful effects to the system. Since, there is still no standardized architecture or protocol that can provide cross application symmetric key management services. Therefore, this paper approaches a secure key management model and its custom protocols to build Thailand quantum trusted network with offers simultaneous quantum key distribution to multiple user overtime. Consequently, the proposed technique has also overcome the limitation of quantum point-to-point key sharing. Based on the discussion of key management security requirement, deal with generic key management concepts and designing the new custom protocols to close the possibility loopholes, to offers reliability and convenience of use, as well as to introduce a secure and efficient key management technique for quantum cryptography network in Thailand where any communication services can take place.

CloudQKDP: Quantum key distribution protocol for cloud computing

G. Murali, R. Sivaram Prasad

A novel computing paradigm, the cloud computing, has become a viable solution on top of virtualization for commoditization of computing resources. Though it has potential to leverage individuals and organizations with plethora of advantages, there are strong security concerns over outsourced data. The existing security models are built with certain assumptions. The solutions like distributed accountability, provable data possession (PDP), Third Party Auditing (TPA) and so on are secure as long as the assumptions hold true. To ensure fool proof security for cloud storage security little research has been made on quantum key cryptography. Since the quantum key distribution is unconditionally secure we propose a new scheme known as CloudQKDP (Quantum Key Distribution Protocol for Cloud Computing) which exploits the benefits of quantum mechanisms to secure cloud storage and data dynamics. We consider a case study in which three parties such as cloud server, data owner and trusted client have provably secure communications with our proposed scheme which uses random oracle model. Our empirical study revealed mixture of success and failure rates with private and public clouds respectively.

Quantum Key Distribution-based Techniques in IoT

Neeraj Neeraj, Anita Singhrova

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a cryptographic technique that creates a secure channel of communication between two parties by applying the ideas of quantum physics. QKD ensures the confidentiality and integrity of data transmission by providing a unique key that the intended recipient can only access. Secure communication has become paramount with the proliferation of IoT (Internet of Things) devices. IoT devices have confined computational power and storage, making them vulnerable to attacks. QKD provides a safe and efficient solution for securing communication between IoT devices. This paper examines how QKD can be utilized in IoT, discussing its benefits and limitations, followed by the discussion on various QKD protocols suitable for IoT devices. In addition, the paper demonstrates that QKD is a promising solution for securing IoT communication, and its adoption significantly enhances the security and reliability of IoT networks.

D. N. Kartheek, G. Amarnath, P. Venkateswarlu Reddy

Most cryptographic mechanisms such as symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, often involve the use of cryptographic keys. However, all cryptographic techniques will be ineffective if the key distribution mechanism is weak. Quantum Key Distribution or Quantum Cryptography is attracting much attention as a solution of the problem of Key Distribution; QKD offers unconditionally secure communication based on quantum mechanics. This work presents quantum key distribution protocols (QKDP) to safeguard security in large networks, ushering in new directions in classical cryptography and quantum cryptography.

Quantum Secure Key Management & Delivery Protocol in the QKD framework

Manjiri Harmalkar, Kurunandan Jain, K. Suresh Kumar +1 more

The current Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) key delivery API relies on HTTPS for secure communication. It is vulnerable to quantum computer threats due to its use of public key cryptography. To mitigate insider attacks, leveraging quantum computing threats within the security boundary and encrypting communication between the application and the KMS is essential. This paper focuses on simulating a 2-node QKD topology using the DARPAN Application. Additionally, we conduct tests on QKD KMS APIs with the Postman tool to ensure consistent retrieval of shared keys at both communication endpoints. Through our simulations and tests, we aim to validate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed approach in securely managing cryptographic keys within the QKD-network.
